    Biomedical translation is a complex activity that goes far beyond finding equivalent terms in another language. Communication and safety problems may occur in scenarios such as the following: (i) if translators are unaware of the conceptual, lexical, and pragmatic complexities of medical translation; (ii) if they do not possess advanced translation competence; or (iii) if they are not familiar with standards and workflows of the sector, or with documentation techniques. They should also be aware of the terminological and technological tools commonly used in the healthcare industry. This book provides viable solutions for English-Spanish medical translators who face such problems. It also integrates widely accepted theoretical paradigms and presents the most up-to-date resources and tools.

    Abstract: This article discusses the practical issues of compiling controlled multilingual thesauri for the purposes of industry-specific translation (IST). In the multilingual, transnational and globally connected Kazakhstan, IST is a much-needed translation service. IST is an interdisciplinary field between terminology, computational linguistics, translation theory and practice. Most of the professional guides, dictionaries and glossaries are systemized in alphabetical order and contain multiple variants for the terms searched. Therefore, there is an urgent need to create a systemized controlled multilingual thesaurus of industry-specific Kazakh, English and Russian terms in order to provide multilingual users with an interoperable and relevant term base. Controlled multilingual thesauri for industry-specific terms are the most effective tools for describing individual subject areas.     Nowadays, lexicographical studies require an interaction with Digital Humanities. This volume presents the genesis and structure of the LBC database, a digital work support tool developed by the Multilanguage Cultural Heritage Lexicon Research Unit under the aegis of the University of Florence, which allows to carry out text research in six different digital corpora (French, English, Italian, Russian, Spanish, German). The authors illustrate the specificities of each corpus in terms of the chosen sources and propose lexicographical and translational uses.
