    En un peu plus d’une décennie, le smartphone a envahi le quotidien de centaines de millions de personnes à travers le monde, devenant très rapidement l’objet fétiche de nos sociétés globales et numérisées. Mais au-delà des enjeux économiques, éthiques ou écologiques immenses dont il est l’emblème, quelle place occupe-t-il dans la vie de ses propriétaires et quelles significations ces derniers lui accordent-ils? Sur la base d‘une enquête de terrain menée à Genève, Los Angeles et Tokyo, cet ouvrage aborde la dimension proprement anthropologique du smartphone. À travers six objets qui symbolisent autant de facettes de son usage — la laisse, la prothèse, le miroir, la baguette magique, le cocon et la coquille vide —, ce sont toutes les tensions et les ambivalences dont cet appareil est porteur qui, dans ces pages, se font jour. Par cette mise en perspective, Nicolas Nova souligne ainsi le rôle incontournable que le smartphone joue dans la reconfiguration de nos activités ordinaires et dans l’évolution de nos cultures matérielles.

    Die Studie entwickelt eine medienbiografische Perspektive auf Smartphone-Fotopraktiken in der Adoleszenz. Sie fragt nach ihrer Relevanz für Biografiearbeit als Teil der Identitätsentwicklung und beleuchtet Praktiken vor dem Hintergrund medienbiografischer Erfahrungen. Biografizität und visuelle Kompetenz werden als Bildungsziele der Medienpädagogik reflektiert. Anhand der dokumentarischen Methode wurden hierzu Interviews und Fotografien der interviewten Jugendlichen interpretiert, wobei die Kommunikationskontexte sozialer Medien systematisch einbezogen wurden. Hieraus ging die Typologie ‚visuelle Biografiearbeit‘ hervor, die milieuspezifisch unterschiedliche Formen fotografiebezogener Kommunikations- und Biografisierungsprozesse offenlegt. This study develops a media biographical perspective on adolescents’ use of smartphones for photography. It investigates smartphones’ relevance in biographical work as part of identity development and examines their use against the background of media biographical experiences, while also reflecting on biographicality and visual literacy as goals of media pedagogy. Using the documentary method, the author interprets interviews with and photographs of young people, while systematically incorporating the communication contexts of social media. This results in the typology of 'visual biographical work', which reveals milieu-specific forms of communication and biographical processes related to photography.

    Diese Studie geht der Frage nach, wie sich das Medienhandeln von Kindern in der veränderungssensitiven Phase des Schulübertritts gestaltet. Theoretisch bedient sich die Arbeit an medienpädagogischen, sozialisationstheoretischen, erziehungswissenschaftlichen sowie kommunikationswissenschaftlichen Theorien und Ansätzen und ist daher interdisziplinär ausgerichtet. Zur Beantwortung der Forschungsfragen wurde ein innovatives multi-methodisches Design gewählt. Zum Einsatz kamen ein Tagebuch sowie Leitfadeninterviews. Die Befunde zeigen eine Transformation des Medienhandelns u. a. durch veränderte Tagesstrukturen. Ebenso hat sich die Bedeutsamkeit des Smartphones im Kontext des Schulübertritts herauskristallisiert. This study examines how children use modern media while experiencing the change-sensitive phase of transitioning from primary school to secondary education. Theoretically, the work is based on theories and approaches from media education, socialisation theory, educational science and communication science, and is therefore interdisciplinary. An innovative multi-methods design was chosen to address the research questions, which involved the use of a diary as well as guided interviews. The study’s findings reveal a transformation in children’s usage of such media due to changes in their daily routines, among other things. Moreover, the importance of smartphones in this context became strikingly clear.

    New developments of existing technologies over time have led to emergent patterns of technology adoption and, accordingly, changing impacts on economy and society. Focusing on the arrival of mobile internet in the early 2010s in developing countries, this paperidentifiessignificant positive effects on provinces' average household income in Viet Nam. The effect sizes are larger for lower-income quintiles and for rural areas, suggesting the more inclusive changing impact of the innovation over the last decade. Preliminary evidence of impact mechanisms via skilled employment rates and (formal) wages is also presented. The evidence from Viet Nam, a lowermiddle-income country, can bring further understanding in terms of the extent of development impacts of second-generation mobile for development (M4D 2.0) in particular and information and communication technologies for development (ICT4D) in general.

    Given the assigned health inequalities faced by sexual minorities, it is fitting to assess whether m-health could be associated with better health-related outcomes for these sexual minorities. The present study examines associations between m-physical and m-mental health apps and sexual minorities' physical and mental health status in Greece. The study utilized three waves of panel data collected in 2018, 2019, and 2020. The findings indicated associations between the use of m-physical and m-mental health apps and increased physical and mental health status for sexual minorities. The work concludes that m-health could enhance informational capabilities associated with increased levels of physical and mental health for sexual minorities. Indeed, the study found that, during the COVID-19 pandemic, sexual minorities experienced physical and mental health deteriorations. Interestingly, the estimates indicated that the association between the use of m-physical and m-mental health apps and increased mental health status for sexual minorities was stronger during the COVID-19 pandemic than before. The study suggests that tracking health-related information through m-health apps during periods of increased uncertainty could be associated with better health prevention and management. If m-health apps can alleviate adverse physical and mental health symptoms for sexual minorities, their potential should be considered.

    Diese Studie geht der Frage nach, wie sich das Medienhandeln von Kindern in der veränderungssensitiven Phase des Schulübertritts gestaltet. Theoretisch bedient sich die Arbeit an medienpädagogischen, sozialisationstheoretischen, erziehungswissenschaftlichen sowie kommunikationswissenschaftlichen Theorien und Ansätzen und ist daher interdisziplinär ausgerichtet. Zur Beantwortung der Forschungsfragen wurde ein innovatives multi-methodisches Design gewählt. Zum Einsatz kamen ein Tagebuch sowie Leitfadeninterviews. Die Befunde zeigen eine Transformation des Medienhandelns u. a. durch veränderte Tagesstrukturen. Ebenso hat sich die Bedeutsamkeit des Smartphones im Kontext des Schulübertritts herauskristallisiert. This study examines how children use modern media while experiencing the change-sensitive phase of transitioning from primary school to secondary education. Theoretically, the work is based on theories and approaches from media education, socialisation theory, educational science and communication science, and is therefore interdisciplinary. An innovative multi-methods design was chosen to address the research questions, which involved the use of a diary as well as guided interviews. The study’s findings reveal a transformation in children’s usage of such media due to changes in their daily routines, among other things. Moreover, the importance of smartphones in this context became strikingly clear.

    Die Studie entwickelt eine medienbiografische Perspektive auf Smartphone-Fotopraktiken in der Adoleszenz. Sie fragt nach ihrer Relevanz für Biografiearbeit als Teil der Identitätsentwicklung und beleuchtet Praktiken vor dem Hintergrund medienbiografischer Erfahrungen. Biografizität und visuelle Kompetenz werden als Bildungsziele der Medienpädagogik reflektiert. Anhand der dokumentarischen Methode wurden hierzu Interviews und Fotografien der interviewten Jugendlichen interpretiert, wobei die Kommunikationskontexte sozialer Medien systematisch einbezogen wurden. Hieraus ging die Typologie ‚visuelle Biografiearbeit‘ hervor, die milieuspezifisch unterschiedliche Formen fotografiebezogener Kommunikations- und Biografisierungsprozesse offenlegt. This study develops a media biographical perspective on adolescents’ use of smartphones for photography. It investigates smartphones’ relevance in biographical work as part of identity development and examines their use against the background of media biographical experiences, while also reflecting on biographicality and visual literacy as goals of media pedagogy. Using the documentary method, the author interprets interviews with and photographs of young people, while systematically incorporating the communication contexts of social media. This results in the typology of 'visual biographical work', which reveals milieu-specific forms of communication and biographical processes related to photography.
