    Erzählungen vom vorbildhaften Leben als heilig erachteter Menschen stehen von der Spätantike bis zur Reformation im Zentrum christlicher Literatur. Ein prominentes Beispiel ist die Legende von Sankt Georg, die nicht nur in verschiedenen lateinischen Fassungen überliefert ist, sondern auch zwischen 900 und 1600 wiederholt in deutscher Sprache bearbeitet wurde. Von besonderem Interesse für die germanistische Mediävistik ist der Heilige Georg Reinbots von Durne – ein um 1240 im Auftrag Ottos II. von Bayern verfasster höfischer Legendenroman, der auf 6134 Versen die heroische Vorgeschichte des Heiligen, seine Konfrontation mit den Repräsentanten des Römischen Reichs und schließlich sein langes Martyrium exponiert. Der literatur- und kulturwissenschaftlich bedeutsame Text wird hier erstmals in einer Studienausgabe mit neuhochdeutscher Übertragung und Kommentar vorgelegt. Enthalten sind in der Ausgabe außerdem mit dem althochdeutschen Georgslied, der lateinischen Georgslegende aus der Legenda Aurea, einer deutschen Übertragung aus der Elsässischen Legenda Aurea sowie Georg Hagers Meisterlied Der Ritter Sant Georg vier kürzere legendarische Texte, die im Seminargebrauch vergleichend untersucht werden können Reinbot's von Durne courtly romance Saint George, published around 1240, is among the most significant medieval narratives of the life of Saint George. In around 6,000 verses it narrates the early life of the Saint, his confrontation with the emissaries of the Roman Empire, and, finally, his long martyrdom. The text is presented here for the first time in a student edition with a New High German translation and commentary

    Der Beitrag nimmt das Buch “Varianz - die Nibelungenfragmente” von Jan-Dirk Müller zum Anlass, konträre Positionen der Nibelungenforschung zu diskutieren. Behandelt werden (1) die Entstehung des Textes, (2) der Begriff des ‘Traditionellen Erzählens’, (3) das Verhältnis von Mündlichkeit und Schriftlichkeit, (4) Art und Umfang der Variantenbildung, (5) die Metrik, (6) die Bestimmung von Textformen und (7) die Ästhetik des ‘Nibelungenlieds’. On the occasion of the publication of Jan-Dirk Müller’s book “Varianz - die Nibelungenfragmente”, the article discusses contrasting positions in Nibelungen research. It is concerned with (1) the genesis of the text, (2) the notion of ‘Traditional Narration’ (‘Traditionelles Erzählen’), (3) the relation between orality and writing, (4) the nature and scope of variant formation, (5) metrics, (6) the determination of text forms and (7) the aesthetics of the ‘Nibelungenlied’.

Enthalten sind in der Ausgabe außerdem mit dem althochdeutschen Georgslied, der lateinischen Georgslegende aus der Legenda Aurea, einer deutschen Übertragung aus der Elsässischen Legenda Aurea sowie Georg Hagers Meisterlied Der Ritter Sant Georg vier kürzere legendarische Texte, die im Seminargebrauch vergleichend untersucht werden können Reinbot's von Durne courtly romance Saint George, published around 1240, is among the most significant medieval narratives of the life of Saint George. In around 6,000 verses it narrates the early life of the Saint, his confrontation with the emissaries of the Roman Empire, and, finally, his long martyrdom. The text is presented here for the first time in a student edition with a New High German translation and commentary

    The article discusses supernatural experiences within the wider culture of the supernatural as a discourse in communication and performance in the liminal area between the credible and the incredible. The interviews analysed in the article were recorded within the context of research into the paranormal that includes several themes, for example apparitions of ghosts, humanoids, dowsing. The concept of belief pervades vernacular discussion and takes the form of the performance of truth in various forms. The teller’s position to the truth of the story can be seen from their narrative strategies, which present the teller as an expert in the supernatural, or on the contrary as an individual struggling in the face of the unknown. Paranormal enthusiasts give social legitimation to single experiences and to networks of thinking, along within the wider culture of the supernatural. Moreover, the places of these encounters can become experiential evidence for meeting the supernatural through dowsing practices that shape the spiritual worldview of those engaged. Thus, single experiences and stories will be woven into a wider story about the intervention of the supernatural in everyday life.
