Abstract: The Briefportal Leibniz is a digital collection of selected letters from series III (Mathematischer, naturwissenschaftlicher und technischer Briefwechsel) of the ongoing critical print edition of Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz’ works and letters, edited by the Academies of Sciences in Berlin and Göttingen. The main corpus of the selection, 157 letters, consists of Leibniz’ correspondence with Johann Bernoulli between 1693 and 1701 which centres mainly on mathematical matters. The portal offers a reader friendly chronological overview of these and several other correspondences but lacks some of the commentary and other material of the printed edition as well as download options for the underlying data. Despite these desiderata, the Briefportal Leibniz is still a promising part of the digital augmentation of the monumental Leibniz edition

Abstract: The Stoffe-project is a text-genetic hybrid edition that digitally processes and presents the works of the Swiss writer Friedrich Dürrenmatt (1921–1990). The estate is part of the founding inventory of the Swiss Literary Archives (SLA), where it has been indexed since 1991, one year after Dürrenmatt’s death, and initially digitally processed in a preliminary version. This served as the scientific basis for the five-volume print edition that was published in May 2021. Editors are Rudolf Probst and Ulrich Weber. The sophisticated new edition is linked to a digital edition in which Dürrenmatt’s autobiographical works can be explored. In the three sections “Text”, “Genesis”, and “Archive”, the online edition offers, on the one hand, the text of the selection edition in digital form, and, on the other hand, text-genetic tools for orientation, as well as the entire manuscript material in the scope of about 30,000 leaves in the form of facsimiles. Thus, Dürrenmatt’s most important work ...

Abstract: The publication of Andreas Okopenko’s diaries from 1949 to 1954 is a digital edition that includes carefully transcribed diary entries with thoughtful and transparent, although not always easily accessible, editing guidelines. The presentation of the digital edition offers engagement with the contents in different ways, whether reading the diaries in chronological order or exploring them through linked data and indexes, but a full-text search is missing. The research data collected is enriched with metadata and available for subsequent use in a repository in the form of TEI-XML files and with an open license. Although API exists, the generated research data is not yet fully integrated in the overarching infrastructure for digital editions at the Austrian National Library (ÖNB). The project took a hybrid approach and published a printed edition subsequently, which, curiously, covers a longer period than the digital edition. The website, however, lacks information on whether there ...

Abstract: Hugo von Montfort – The poetic work calls itself a hybrid edition. In fact one would hesitate to call this a digital edition as from the beginning, the main purpose of the website had been to accompany the printed edition. Nevertheless, over time more materials have been assembled and offer multiple ways of access: for textual scholarly work (Lesefassung), for linguistic and palaeographic interests (Augenfassung), for listening. Unfortunately the texts are distributed over several websites and cannot be linked as one would wish. Additionally, the Augenfassung is available only for the main manuscript. Restrictive licensing will not allow to make use of the material other than reading on-line. This is regrettable as the original edition has been award-winning

Abstract: The Mark Twain Project Online (MTPO) provides digital critical editions of Mark Twain’s writings for the purpose of scholarly study. The edition project creates a foundation for in-depth research on Mark Twain’s person and texts, as well as contributes greatly to this research itself. All the editions and resources from the MTPO are available free of cost and without registration. The goal of the edition is to publish all of Mark Twain’s writings and this review concentrates particularly on their digital edition of Mark Twain’s letters. This edition project achieves a great deal of transparency regarding editorial principles and practices, making it easy for the reader to follow the editorial decisions. The amount of scholarly work put into the editing and commentary is commendable and offers a vast amount of information for research and analysis. The technical aspects of the digital edition are satisfactory, providing for a digital edition that is easy to read and use, however ...

Abstract: The edition humboldt digital is a publication of the project ‘Travelling Humboldt’ by the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities. Together with its printed supplement the edition humboldt printed, it aims to make the scientific heritage that is relevant to Alexander von Humboldt’s journeys accessible in its entirety based on a digital first approach. Overall, the edition humboldt digital excels in exploiting digital techniques and successfully positions itself at the intersection of sciences and humanities. Therefore, it will be discussed in this review whether it could be considered not only as a scholarly digital edition but also as an information platform on Alexander von Humboldt and his work in general. Additionally, by pursuing an open science strategy, the edition also paves the way for future reuse of its data. Altogether, even though some technical issues remain, the edition humboldt digital can serve as a role model for other digital scholarly editions. ...
