    Many scholars, practitioners, and policy-makers in the cultural sector argue that Canadian cultural policy is at a crossroads: that the environment for cultural policy-making has evolved substantially and that traditional rationales for state intervention no longer apply.
    The concept of cultural citizenship is a relative newcomer to the cultural policy landscape, and offers a potentially compelling alternative rationale for government intervention in the cultural sector. Likewise, the articulation and use of cultural indicators and of governance concepts are also new arrivals, emerging as potentially powerful tools for policy and program development.
    Accounting for Culture is a unique collection of essays from leading Canadian and international scholars that critically examines cultural citizenship, cultural indicators, and governance in the context of evolving cultural practices and cultural policy-making.     This book is about possibilities for, challenges for and knowledge about local cultural work among young people. It describes cultural work at a municipal level but shows also how this work is aiming to reach goals that it has in common with national cultural policy: quality, participation, inclusion, diversity and democracy. Using the municipality and town of Drammen as a vantage point, the book investigates how different parameters effect local cultural work, and how cultural policy at a municipal level is, by necessity, pragmatic, practical and sometimes prosaic. This topic is dealt with through a combination of qualitative and quantitative analysis. The empirical data presented and discussed in the book is a combination of qualitative case studies and quantitative survey data. The survey data shows variations and patterns in the cultural consumption of an age cohort in the municipality, and the case studies show different ways of effectuating and organizing cultural work at this level. Finally, the book discusses the complex interplay between means and ends when a municipality is working to make culture matter for young people. Denne boken handler om muligheter, utfordringer og kunnskap i lokalt kulturarbeid blant barn og unge. Den beskriver kulturarbeid på kommunalt nivå, men viser også hvordan dette arbeidet tar sikte på å nå nasjonale kulturpolitiske mål som kvalitet, deltakelse, inkludering, mangfold og demokrati. Med Drammen som et utsiktspunkt, undersøker boken hvordan ulike faktorer påvirker lokalt kulturarbeid, og hvordan kulturpolitikken på kommunalt nivå nødvendigvis er både pragmatisk og prinsipiell, praktisk og prosaisk. De empiriske dataene som presenteres og diskuteres i boken er en kombinasjon av kvalitative casestudier og kvantitative surveydata. Surveydataene viser variasjoner og mønstre i det kulturelle forbruket blant en hel aldersgruppe, og case-studiene viser ulike måter å gjennomføre og organisere kulturarbeid på dette området. Boken drøfter også det komplekse samspillet mellom midler og mål som er involvert når en kommune arbeider for å gjøre kultur betydningsfullt for unge mennesker.

    "The essays in this edited volume, written in English and French, tackle the intriguing problems of fear and safety by analysing their various meanings and manifestations in literature and other narrative media. The articles bring forth new, cross-cultural interpretations on fear and safety through examining what kinds of genre-specific means of world-making narratives use to express these two affectivities. The articles also show how important it is to study these themes in order to understand challenges in times of global threats, such as the climate crisis, and – to imagine a better future.

     

    The main themes of the book are approached from various theoretical perspectives as related to their literary and cultural representations. Recent trends in research, such as affect and risk theory, serve as the basis for the discussion. Many of the articles in the volume discuss apocalyptic and dystopian narratives that currently permeate the entire cultural landscape. Dystopian narratives do not only deal with future threats, such as totalitarianism, technocracy, or environmental disasters, but also suggest alternative ways of being and new hopes in the form of political resistance. The articles in the volume also draw from disciplines such as gender studies and trauma studies to examine the threats posed by collective fears and aggression on individuals’ lives and propose ways of coping with fear. These themes are addressed also in articles analysing new adaptations of old myths that retell stories of the past."

    Vielfach wird eine von der Sowjetunion orientierte kulturelle Gleichschaltung der sozialistischen Staaten konstatiert. Unbeachtet bleibt, dass ihre Bindung Moskau gegenüber differenziert ausfiel. Ursächlich ist nicht allein eine unterschiedlich restriktive Kulturpolitik, sondern ein ungleich starker Bindungswille zum Marxismus in den einzelnen Ländern. Ziel dieser Studie ist es, den Gründen für dieses Phänomen und dessen Auswirkungen auf Literatur und Literaturwissenschaft während der Jahre 1949 bis 1990 am Beispiel Chinas, der DDR, Polens und Vietnams nachzugehen. Neben Dokumenten und Korrespondenz dienen Zeitzeugeninterviews als Untersuchungsgrundlage.     The arts and cultural sector in Ghana are of significant public importance and have witnessed tremendous growth in the past. However, the general consumption pattern of the arts and culture has been transformed in recent years in Ghana. In this study, I analyze cultural policy support for a sustainable performing arts sector. This is because arts and culture have not received much attention from public policy analysts in Ghana. I examine the strategic goals of cultural policy and support for the performing arts in Ghana. I adopt a qualitative mode of inquiry using observations, expert interviews and documents to analyze cultural policy support for the performing arts. The findings reveal that cultural policy in Ghana encompasses diverse areas yet interconnected to achieve cultural goals. I, therefore, conclude that effective support systems are needed from the government and other stakeholders to boost the arts and cultural sector in Ghana.
