    La metafisica è spesso presentata come se costituisse un discorso chiuso, completo. Sarà per questa ragione che non si la considera importante per la vita, che è complessa, esitante. La metafisica sarà fantascienza, oppio per la ragione? Essa corrisponde però a una vera esigenza della ragione umana. Non sarà l'esigenza di possedere una verità ultima in cui tutti i problemi dell'esistenza troveranno la loro soluzione, ma una necessità che appartiene intrinsecamente all'intelletto. L'intelletto umano non si soddisfa di qualsiasi ragione, lotta contro ogni rischio d'illusione, desidera una soddisfazione che sia proporzionata alle sue possibilità. Il libro si divide in due parti. La prima, una sorta di cammino ascendente, interpreta la figura che, nella filosofia del linguaggio, si chiama "analogia". La seconda parte, un cammino discende, esamina la sequenza del trascendentali proposta da Tommaso d'Aquino, interpretata integrando gli sforzi della filosofia dei nostri tempi.

    Guang Yangs Arbeit nimmt die zentrale Frage des heideggerschen Denkens nach dem Wesen des Logos und der Sprache wieder auf, verbindet sie aber mit dem Begriff der Dynamis. So erweist sich der Logos als diejenige Kraft, die zwischen Bewegung und Ruhe vermitteln und damit die Bewegtheit des Seins in sich versammeln kann. Mit dieser in sich gesammelten Kraft hängt auch das Phänomen der Ruhe zusammen, welches die Bewegung auffängt und entsprechend aufgewertet werden muss. Dieser in der Heidegger-Forschung selten beachtete Gedanke der Ruhe deutet auf die privative Dimension des Seins hin, die auch bei Phänomenen wie räumlicher Leere und der Stille zum Tragen kommt und dabei nicht negativ zu fassen ist. In dieser Untersuchung wird zudem – mit und gegen Heidegger – der Möglichkeitscharakter des Seins hervorgehoben, der nicht allein in der vollzugshaften Bewegung aufgeht. Guang Yang's work rekindles the central question of Heidegger's thinking on the nature of logos and language, but takes a fresh approach by connecting these to the concept of dynamis. In this case, logos proves to be the force liaising between movement and rest, and is thus able to gather in itself the motion of being. This self-collected force is coupled with the phenomenon of rest, into which motion issues and which has to be reappraised accordingly. This notion of rest, rarely regarded in research on Heidegger, points to the privative dimension of being that also comes into play with phenomena such as spatial emptiness and silence, and is not to be taken negatively. This study also highlights – both with and in opposition to Heidegger – the character of being as possibility, which is not entirely absorbed into the actuality of movement.

Indem besonderes Augenmerk auf die Argumentation der israelitischen Literatur gelegt wird, sowie auf deren Funktion als epideiktische Redekunst, die Solidarität mit den Zuhörern aufbaut, bringt der Autor die Komplexität israelitischer intellektueller Aktivität während und nach der Königszeit zum Vorschein. So zeigt er, dass dieses Gedankengut noch heute westliches politisches Denken beeinflusst. The political rhetoric of ancient Israel took several literary, architectural, and graphic forms. Much of the relevant material concerns kingship, but other loci of authority and submission also drew significant attention. Mark W. Hamilton illustrates how these »texts« interacted with other political rhetorics, especially those of the great Mesopotamian empires. By paying close attention to the argumentation of the Israelite literature as well as their function as epideictic oratory building solidarity with hearers he reveals the complexity of Israelite intellectual activity both during and after the period of the monarchy. By doing this he shows that this body of thought lies at the heart of Western political thought even today.
