This book is the beginning of a conversation across Social Semiotics, Translanguaging, Complexity Theory and Radical Sociolinguistics. In its explorations of meaning, multimodality, communication and emerging language practices, the book includes theoretical and empirical chapters that move toward an understanding of communication in its dynamic complexity, and its social semiotic and situated character. It relocates current debates in linguistics and in multimodality, as well as conceptions of centers/margins, by re-conceptualizing communicative practice through investigation of indigenous/oral communities, street art performances, migration contexts, recycling artefacts and signage repurposing. The book takes an innovative approach to both the form and content of its scholarly writing, and will be of interest to all those involved in interdisciplinary thinking, researching and writing

Street art was once simply graffiti, a sign of decay that lowered property values. Fast forward to the transformation of London?s East End and it became cool. Seen as "gritty" and "edgy", street art generates interest in an area. Refashioned, and made acceptable, it transforms public space as areas become high-priced, trendy and attractive to the emerging creative class. Its "edge" and sense of "authenticity" become a means to speed up gentrification. Yet as property prices rise, the high cost of living forces out those artists who created the art as well as the local residents. Never was this truer than in London's Shoreditch where these images are shot ? an open-air showcase of urban art that generates considerable tourism. Exhibition: Gallery 46, London, UK (07-21.03.2020)

"The Writing of Where examines how graffiti writers in Boston write and rewrite various spaces within and across the city. Drawing on a four-year study with graffiti writers, this book explores how writing communities-particularly those marginalized by local processes of neoliberal space-produce public texts that at once challenge existing discourses of place and produce new, emergent writing spaces organized around alternative social principles"--

"Beginning in October 2019, Chile was convulsed by protests and political upheaval, as what began as civil disobedience transformed into a vast resistance movement. Throughout, one of the most striking aspects of the protests was the murals, graffiti, and other political graphics that became ubiquitous in Chilean cities. In this fascinating, beautifully illustrated book, Terri Gordon-Zolov and Eric Zolov-who were in Santiago to witness and document the protests from their very beginnings -offer a vivid catalog of Chilean wall art in all its vitality, subtlety, and inventiveness, along with reflections on its artistic antecedents, the context of global protest movements, and the long shadow cast by Chile's authoritarian past"--

Street art was once simply graffiti, a sign of decay that lowered property values. Fast forward to the transformation of London?s East End and it became cool. Seen as ?gritty? and ?edgy?, street art generates interest in an area. Refashioned, and made acceptable, it transforms public space as areas become high-priced, trendy and attractive to the emerging creative class. Its ?edge? and sense of ?authenticity? become a means to speed up gentrification. Yet as property prices rise, the high cost of living forces out those artists who created the art as well as the local residents. Never was this truer than in London?s Shoreditch where these images are shot ? an open-air showcase of urban art that generates considerable tourism.00Exhibition: Gallery 46, London, UK (07-21.03.2020)
