    Die Autorin geht den Manifestationen des Wasserfrauen-Mythos im europäischen Kulturkreis von der Antike bis heute nach. Die Symbolgeschichte der Sirenen, Nymphen, Melusinen und Loreleien, oder wie immer diese weiblichen Mischwesen bezeichnet wurden, ist zugleich eine Geschichte ihres Bedeutungswandels: Mal gut, mal schicksalhaft verstrickt, mal dämonisch-böse schwimmt oder schwebt das wandelbare Wesen mit oder ohne Fischschwanz durch Geister-, Wunder- und Feengeschichten oder durch Reiseberichte und Naturstudien. Der Akzent liegt bei Bessler aber weniger bei den literarischen Belegen, als vielmehr bei den künstlerischen Ausformungen: in Illustrationen, Skulpturen, Wappen und Werken prominenter Künstler - bis hin zur zeitgenössischen Nixen-Barbie. Die umfangreich bebilderte Monographie kann - neben den Arbeiten von S. Golowin (ID 44/93) oder N. Arrowsmith (zuletzt E-ID 37/87) sowie einschlägigen Märchen-Anthologien wie "Undinenzauber" (BA 8/91) bereitgestellt werden. (3) (Uwe-F. Obsen)

    Die Autorin geht den Manifestationen des Wasserfrauen-Mythos im europäischen Kulturkreis von der Antike bis heute nach. Die Symbolgeschichte der Sirenen, Nymphen, Melusinen und Loreleien, oder wie immer diese weiblichen Mischwesen bezeichnet wurden, ist zugleich eine Geschichte ihres Bedeutungswandels: Mal gut, mal schicksalhaft verstrickt, mal dämonisch-böse schwimmt oder schwebt das wandelbare Wesen mit oder ohne Fischschwanz durch Geister-, Wunder- und Feengeschichten oder durch Reiseberichte und Naturstudien. Der Akzent liegt bei Bessler aber weniger bei den literarischen Belegen, als vielmehr bei den künstlerischen Ausformungen: in Illustrationen, Skulpturen, Wappen und Werken prominenter Künstler - bis hin zur zeitgenössischen Nixen-Barbie. Die umfangreich bebilderte Monographie kann - neben den Arbeiten von S. Golowin (ID 44/93) oder N. Arrowsmith (zuletzt E-ID 37/87) sowie einschlägigen Märchen-Anthologien wie "Undinenzauber" (BA 8/91) bereitgestellt werden. (3) (Uwe-F. Obsen)
