    When parents die, this is usually accompanied by drastic and lasting experiences for the children. However, what this experience means for adult middle-aged children has hardly been addressed in educational science. In contrast, numerous literary texts deal with this phase of life. Eight examples are analyzed in this work as ambivalent transitional situations and the writing down of this experience is reflected upon as a way of processing it. Wenn die Eltern sterben, ist dies zumeist mit einschneidenden und nachhaltigen Erlebnissen für die Kinder verbunden. Was diese Erfahrung für erwachsene Kinder im mittleren Lebensalter bedeutet, ist in den Erziehungswissenschaften bislang jedoch kaum thematisiert worden. Demgegenüber lassen sich zahlreiche literarische Texte finden, die sich mit dieser Lebensphase beschäftigen. Acht Beispiele werden in dieser Arbeit als ambivalente biographische Übergangssituationen analysiert und die Niederschrift dieser Erfahrung als eine Möglichkeit der Verarbeitung reflektiert.
