    The world of law has changed in the last decades: it has become more globalized, multilingual and digital. The contributions of this volume continue the interdisciplinary discussion about the challenges of this change for theory and practice of law and for the International Language and Law Association (ILLA) relaunched in 2017, introducing the research field of legal linguistics in different parts of the world and considering multilingualism, power abuse and mediatization of the law The world of law has changed in the last decades: it has become more globalized, multilingual and digital. The sections and contributions of this volume continue the interdisciplinary discussion about the challenges of this change for theory and practice of law and for the International Language and Law Association (ILLA) relaunched in 2017. First, the book gives a broad overview to the research field of legal linguistics, its history, research directions and open questions in different parts of the world (United States, Africa, Italy, Spain, Germany, Nordic countries and Russia). The second section consists of contributions about the relation of language, law and justice in a globalized world with a focus on multilingual and supranational law in the EU. The third section focuses on digitalization and mediatization of the law, the last section reports about the discussion at the ILLA relaunch conference in 2017

    Im US-amerikanischen wie im deutschen Föderalismus gebrauchen Gerichte ›selbstbewusst‹ dogmatische Topoi wie ›state dignity‹ oder ›Bundestreue‹, welche nicht im Verfassungstext enthalten sind. Diese ›ungeschriebenen‹ Figuren sind offen für ideenpolitische Instrumentalisierung: Sie dienen als Vehikel, um Vorstellungen von ›(Sub )Nationalstaatlichkeit‹, ›Demokratie‹ oder ›Freiheit‹ auszutarieren. Ihre politik-theoretische Einbettung im Modell des ›Bundes‹, Referenzfelder ihrer Verwendung (etwa Kulturpolitik, Umweltrecht, öffentliche Sicherheit, Personal und Finanzen, Wahlrecht, Verfassungsänderungen) und ihre rhetorisch-diskursiven Wirkungsbedingungen sind Gegenstände der vergleichenden Studie. Die Rhetorikanalyse erfolgt interdisziplinär: Das untersuchte Muster kreist um anthropomorphe, ›lyrische‹ Vorstellungen von ›Würde‹ und ›Treue‹. Unter Rückgriff auf die literaturwissenschaftliche Dekonstruktion analysiert das Buch die Kraft anthropomorpher Dogmatik in Recht und Literatur 'Deconstructing the Rhetoric of Federalism – On Doctrine in Law and Literature. Instrumental Federalism in the United States of America and the Federal Republic of Germany as a Lyrical Figure of Reading': In American and German federalism, courts assertively deploy topoi such as ›state dignity‹ or ›Bundestreu‹’ which are not laid down in the constitutional texts. The comparative study scrutinizes these ›unwritten‹ doctrines as examples of activist judicial constitutionalism. The topoi revolve around anthropomorphic, ›lyrical‹ notions of ›dignity‹ and ›fidelity‹. Building on deconstruction in literary criticism, the book analyzes the force of anthropomorphic doctrine in law and literature
