    Wenn sich ein Individuum der binären Geschlechtseinteilung entzieht, wird das Alltagswissen instabil: Durch die Konstituierung eines 'Anderen' gegenüber dem menschlich 'Normalen' werden Individuen aus dem Bereich des Menschlichen ausgeschlossen, sie gelten als kulturell nicht intelligibel (Butler).Annette Raczuhn greift ein Forschungsdesiderat in diesem Bereich auf, indem sie erstmals die Produktion von gesellschaftlich geteiltem Wissen anhand der kulturellen Repräsentation von Transsex* in Filmen untersucht. Mit den Theoremen »Wrong Body Story«, Voyeurismus, Beichtpraxis und dem Passing-out zeigt sie die gesellschaftliche Diskrepanz zwischen wissenschaftlicher Konstruktion und Alltagsverständnis auf.

    Critical analysis of the dramatisation of homosexuality in British fiction about the Second World War is noticeable only by its relative absence from the field. Whereas feminist literary criticism has broadened the canon of war fiction to include narratives by and about women, queer scholars have seldom focused on literary representations of homosexuality during the war. Natalie Marena Nobitz closes a glaring gap in the critical attention of four novels dealing with the disruption of gender roles and institutionalised heteronormativity: Walter Baxter's Look Down in Mercy (1951), Mary Renault's The Charioteer (1952), Sarah Waters' The Night Watch (2006) and Adam Fitzroy's Make Do and Mend (2012).

    Can Fashion Be Queer? The combination of clothing, accessories and styles has long since become standard in fashion, along with unisex as a trend of urban fashion design. Can the concept of queerness then be applied to fashion in any way? If it is possible to use objects and styles to constantly shift and re-constitute meaning in a fashion context, do such acts then also have the potential to make codes such as gender ambiguous and to set them in motion?     The history of queer visibilities and invisibilities in German and Turkish Tabloids. Verhilft die Boulevardpresse queeren Deutungen zur Repräsentation in der dominanzgesellschaftlichen Kultur? Am Beispiel von »Bild« und »Hürriyet« zeigt Yener Bayramoglu, wie boulevardjournalistische Versuche, normabweichende sexuelle Subjekte zu skandalisieren, queere Positionen sichtbar machen. Durch seine historisch-komparative Analyse verliert die oft wiederholte Dichotomie von Okzident und Orient ihre Bedeutung: Während eine Pluralität von queeren Repräsentationen in der »Hürriyet« offen zu beobachten ist, ist der deutsche Kontext von falschen Repräsentationen, verzerrten Stimmen sowie großen Lücken auf Grund von Nicht-Repräsentation gekennzeichnet.

    Wenn sich ein Individuum der binären Geschlechtseinteilung entzieht, wird das Alltagswissen instabil: Durch die Konstituierung eines 'Anderen' gegenüber dem menschlich 'Normalen' werden Individuen aus dem Bereich des Menschlichen ausgeschlossen, sie gelten als kulturell nicht intelligibel (Butler).Annette Raczuhn greift ein Forschungsdesiderat in diesem Bereich auf, indem sie erstmals die Produktion von gesellschaftlich geteiltem Wissen anhand der kulturellen Repräsentation von Transsex* in Filmen untersucht. Mit den Theoremen »Wrong Body Story«, Voyeurismus, Beichtpraxis und dem Passing-out zeigt sie die gesellschaftliche Diskrepanz zwischen wissenschaftlicher Konstruktion und Alltagsverständnis auf.

    Critical analysis of the dramatisation of homosexuality in British fiction about the Second World War is noticeable only by its relative absence from the field. Whereas feminist literary criticism has broadened the canon of war fiction to include narratives by and about women, queer scholars have seldom focused on literary representations of homosexuality during the war. Natalie Marena Nobitz closes a glaring gap in the critical attention of four novels dealing with the disruption of gender roles and institutionalised heteronormativity: Walter Baxter's Look Down in Mercy (1951), Mary Renault's The Charioteer (1952), Sarah Waters' The Night Watch (2006) and Adam Fitzroy's Make Do and Mend (2012).

    The ancient stories of Pero, who breastfed her father, and of the unnamend Roman daughter, who breastfed her mother, were of tremendous interest to artists and their audiences from the Renaissance to the Enlightenment. »The Roman Charity« investigates the iconography of the breastfeeding daughter from the perspective of queer sexuality and erotic maternity. The book explores the popularity of a topic that renders modern viewers uneasy, but appealed to early modern observers for its eroticizing shock value, its ironic take on the venerable concept of »charity«, and its implied critique of patriarchal power structures. It tries to understand why and how early modern viewers found an incestuous, adult breastfeeding scene »good to think with«, and aims at expanding and queering our notions of early modern sexuality

Anhand von Interviews mit Aktivist_innen und Therapeut_innen räumt Kim Scheunemann mit dem Vorurteil auf, dass ausschließlich Inter*-oder Trans*personen sich mit Geschlecht auseinandersetzen (müssen) und stellt in Frage, ob es objektive Expert_innen des Geschlechtes überhaupt geben kann.

    Ladyfeste stellen eine aktuelle queer-feministische Politikform dar. Alexandra Ommert liefert die bisher einzige Studie, die sich empirisch dem Ladyfest-Aktivismus der 2000er Jahre im deutschsprachigen Raum widmet. Sie ordnet das Phänomen historisch und begrifflich-theoretisch ein und schlägt vor, sein utopisches Potenzial im Ringen um Begriffe und Kategorien als plurale, transkategoriale Bündnispolitik zu verstehen und weiterzudenken. So werden nicht nur Einblicke in die aktivistischen Debatten und die historischen Zusammenhänge mit der Riot-grrrl-Bewegung geboten, sondern auch deren Bedeutung für einen aktuellen queer-feministischen Aktivismus aufgezeigt.

Can the concept of queerness then be applied to fashion in any way? If it is possible to use objects and styles to constantly shift and re-constitute meaning in a fashion context, do such acts then also have the potential to make codes such as gender ambiguous and to set them in motion? This volume presents systematic reflections and exemplary analyses on the relationship between queerness and fashion in a German-language context for the first time, in the process, opening up fashion, gender and queer studies to new perspectives.     This book explores representations of intersex - intersex persons, intersex communities, and intersex as a cultural concept and knowledge category - in contemporary North American literature and popular culture. The study turns its attention to the significant paradigm shift in the narratives on intersex that occurred within early 1990s intersex activism in response to biopolitical regulations of intersex bodies. Focusing on the emergence of recent autobiographical stories and cultural productions like novels and TV series centering around intersex, Viola Amato provides a first systematic analysis of an activism-triggered resignification of intersex.

Júlia Braga Neves shows how these spaces are pivotal for the representation of queer history in the fictional works by the British authors Sarah Waters and Alan Hollinghurst, whose characters and plots are articulated through and within London's sexual geographies. Considering the intersection between gender, sexuality, and class, this study engages with spatial, queer, feminist, and Marxist theories as a means to reflect on London, queer historiography, and the relationship between subject and urban space.

    The expression »to come out of the closet« calls for an analysis of how language and notional as well as social spaces interact and intersect to constitute »queer«. This performative book, a product of artistic research, is an exploration of the proverbial closet through linguistics, queer, and post-colonial theory. It is a project in which opacity, minority, and improvisation happen on the levels of content, analysis, and typography. 11 queer slangs from around the world become part of an exploration of queerness and knowledge from the Periphery through autoethnography, Édouard Glissant's concept of opacity, José Muñoz's disidentifications, and Gloria Anzaldúa's performative writing. Theory, personal accounts, and art are interwoven to offer an interdisciplinary reading of the slangs as queer methods of survival and resistance.

    Mit »Constructing Intersex« liegt die erste Biographieforschung mit intergeschlechtlichen Menschen im deutschsprachigen Raum vor. Auf Basis von Interviews stellt Anja Gregor heraus, welche schwerwiegenden Folgen bestimmte medizinische Pathologisierungs- und Zurichtungspraktiken für die Biographien der Betroffenen haben. Sie zeigt: Die soziale Konstruktion von Intergeschlechtlichkeit als zugleich tabuisiertem und medizinisch hochrelevantem Phänomen ist nicht nur auf der medizinisch-praktischen Ebene von Ambivalenzen und Verwerfungen geprägt. Die Studie reflektiert zudem den sozialen Gehalt von Körper und Geschlecht und verweist so auf das gesellschaftstheoretische Potential von Intergeschlechtlichkeit als sozialer Kategorie.     `Queer Studies' researches diverse identities beyond the bounds of heteronormative discourse and simultaneously argues for a fundamental critique of identity, in which the focus is placed on the categories of gender and sexuality which are so important in political and power struggles. This anthology explores the connection between the practical knowledge and everyday practices of queer experience with academic knowledge in a new way, and deftly combines the analysis of production, distribution and consumption of such knowledges with.     `Queer Studies' researches diverse identities beyond the bounds of heteronormative discourse and simultaneously argues for a fundamental critique of identity, in which the focus is placed on the categories of gender and sexuality which are so important in political and power struggles. This anthology explores the connection between the practical knowledge and everyday practices of queer experience with academic knowledge in a new way, and deftly combines the analysis of production, distribution and consumption of such knowledges with. The essays are based on a broadly conceived understanding of culture, and inquire into the (im)possibilities of queer politics from the perspectives of various disciplines and individual positions of identification. »Queer Studies« erforschen vielfältige Identitäten jenseits heteronormativer Diskurse und plädieren zugleich für eine grundsätzliche Identitätskritik, bei der der Fokus auf den machtpolitisch wichtigen Kategorien der Geschlechter und Sexualitäten liegt.
