    Die sprachliche Ausblendung des Autorsubjekts ist prägendes Merkmal der Wissenschaftskommunikation, gleichzeitig indiziert aber jeder Wissenschaftstext durch seinen argumentativen Duktus, durch die individuelle Wahl der sprachlichen Mittel und durch explizite Teiltexte wie Vorwörter unweigerlich ein Autorsubjekt, dem der Text zugeschrieben wird. Die vorliegende Arbeit zielt darauf ab, den Autor auf diesem Hintergrund als aspektreiche Konstruktion im Text zu beschreiben. Damit verbindet sich das Ziel, den Autorbegriff, der bis jetzt vor allem in der literaturtheoretischen Diskussion eine zentrale Rolle spielte, in die Diskussion um die Domäne der Sachtexte einzubringen und für eine pragmatisch orientierte, interdisziplinär agierende Textwissenschaft anschlussfähig zu machen. Die Darstellung von Autorschaft bewegt sich auf unterschiedlichen Darstellungsniveaus. Wissenschaftstypische Handlungen wie „ein Forschungsproblem lösen“ werden laufend expliziert, während wissenschaftstypische Haltungen wie Unsicherheit in hohem Maße auf Andeutung angewiesen sind. Im hier vorgeschlagenen, theoretisch orientierten Modell werden die Markierungsebenen integriert. Der „Autor-im-Text“ kann damit sowohl als domänentypische wie als individuelle Figur bestimmt werden.

    The book offers a comprehensive account of how humor works in short stories, by presenting a model of narrative comedy that is pragmatically as well as semantically, grammatically and stylistically informed. It is the first study to combine a sequential analysis of the comic short story with a hierarchical one, merging together horizontal and vertical narratological perspectives in a systematic way. The book covers the main areas of linguistic analysis and is deliberately interdisciplinary, using input from philosophy, sociology and psychology so as to touch upon the nature, motivations and functions of humor as a cognitive phenomenon in a social context. Crucially, The Language of Comic Narratives combines a scholarly approach with a careful explanation of key terms and concepts, making it accessible to researchers and students, as well as non-specialists. Moreover, it reviews a broad range of historical critical data by examining the source texts, and it provides many humorous examples, from jokes to extracts from comic narratives. Thus, it seeks to anchor theory in specific texts, and also to show that many linguistic mechanisms of humor are common to jokes and longer, literary comic narratives. The book tests the model of humorous narratives on a set of comic short stories by British and American writers, ranging from Evelyn Waugh and Dorothy Parker, through Graham Greene and Corey Ford, to David Lodge and Woody Allen. The validity of the model is confirmed through a subsequent discussion of apparent counter-examples

    With the aid of several different case studies, the entries within this volume show that works of literature and music are located in concrete living-world or discursive contexts, which serve the purpose of determining the location of the author and his/her work. In this way, the anthology aims to encourage cultural research, which, despite all theoretical exaggeration and hasty updates, reverts to the concrete texts within their living-world, social and historical contexts. To this extent, the "positioning" is rather programmatic within a renewing social history of culture. Angaben zur beteiligten Person Niefanger: Prof. Dr. Dirk Niefanger lehrt Neuere deutsche Literaturwissenschaft an der Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen Nürnberg. Angaben zur beteiligten Person Schnabel: Prof. Dr. Werner Wilhelm Schnabel lehrt Neuere deutsche Literaturwissenschaft an der Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen Nürnberg. Anhand unterschiedlicher Fallbeispiele zeigen die Beiträge dieses Bandes, dass Werke der Literatur und Musik in konkreten lebensweltlichen oder diskursiven Kontexten verortet werden, die durchaus zielbewusst der Standortbestimmung von Autor und Werk dienen. Damit möchte der Sammelband kulturwissenschaftliche Forschungen anregen, die sich – fern jeder theoretischen Überpointierung oder vorschneller Aktualisierungen – wieder den konkreten Texten in ihren lebensweltlichen, sozialen und historischen Kontexten zuwendet. Insofern verstehen sich die ›Positionierungen‹ durchaus programmatisch im Feld einer sich erneuernden Sozialgeschichte der Kultur.
