It originated in the theater, but we know and experience it as the political, public, private, profane, and sacred scene as well. Away from the stages of art, media, and entertainment, staging takes place. In a historically and systematically sweeping »extended scenography« that integrates design and compositional thought and sees itself as practical knowledge, Heiner Wilharm surveys the variations of scenic resolution of design and composition intentions in everyday actions and experience, such as in literature and science. Scenic resolution, according to the author, is carried out according to the practical and even theoretical use of sign and meaning, as an act and performance or additionally, as a presentation and representation. The thus-emerging theory of action and meaning, until now associated with the philosophy of Charles S. Peirce, undertakes a comprehensive assessment of the scenic and the staged both within and beyond the arts

Was performance important to Deleuze? Is Deleuze important to performance; to its practical, as well as theoretical, research? What are the implications of Deleuze's philosophy of difference, process and becoming, for Performance Studies, a field in which many continue to privilege the notion of performance as representation, as anchored by its imitation of an identity: 'the world', 'the play', 'the self'? Deleuze and Performance is a collection of new essays dedicated to Deleuze's writing on theatre and to the productivity of his philosophy for (re)thinking performance. This book provides rig

"This Element introduces the notion of curatorial composing to account for certain musical practices that emerged from the 1960s as the founding concepts of music as an art - instituted in the modern era - were systematically dismantled. It raises the key question of how musical value and authority might be produced without recourse to an external principle, origin, transcendental framework, or other foundation. It argues that these practices do not dismiss the issue of value or simply relativise it but shift the paradigm to a curatorial concern for composing public encounters and staging events. The Element shows that Lydia Goehr's elaboration of the work-concept provides a framework that was transformed by John Cage in his work from 0'00" (1962) onwards. The Element then introduces Heiner Goebbels' practice and focus on his role as Artistic Director of the Ruhrtriennale (2012-14), which it argues was an extension of his curatorial composing"--
