Daher geraten die grundlegenden Bedingungen in Vergessenheit, die sie mit anderen Waren und Gütern der industriellen Moderne gemein hatten. Nadine Taha blickt auf den Aufstieg der nordamerikanischen Industrieforschung zwischen 1870 und 1950. Anhand von Fallstudien rekonstruiert sie die gemeinsamen Wurzeln von telekommunikativen Massenmedien und Bürokratie. Dabei macht sie die Wirkmächtigkeit von Patenten, Labornotizbüchern, Spezifikationen und laboratorischen Reportsystemen sichtbar, die unzertrennlicher Teil der Erfindungsgeschichte technischer Medien sind

    The patent for coining copper money granted by King George I to the English manufacturer William Wood aroused nationwide protest in Ireland. It led to the publication of Jonathan Swift’s «Drapier’s Letters», in which the Dean of St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Dublin, attacked both the patent and England’s Irish policy. But this is not the whole story. This annotated edition contains more than 100 pamphlets, declarations, poems, and songs that were published during the dispute. Most of the reproduced texts are extremely rare and have hitherto lain dormant in various libraries. They illustrate that the protest was in fact carried on by the Irish population at large, who regarded the coinage scheme as a severe intrusion into the nation’s circulating cash which threatened to ruin the country’s economy. «Jonathan Swift's Allies belongs in all research libraries: it is an indispensable resource for all researching 18C Irish history & literature.»(J.E.     Este libro pretende aportar una contribución al estudio comparativo multilingüe de resúmenes de patente (RP) para el traductor outsider. ¿Guarda el género textual una relación con la estrategia de traducción? ¿Cuáles son las competencias que debe desarrollar el traductor de patentes? La autora rompe moldes al incidir en la importancia del contexto de producción de RP para el análisis textual previo a la traducción. La originalidad del enfoque radica tanto en la inclusión de textos chinos como en la delimitación de factores extratextuales decisivos para la lectura y la toma de decisiones lingüísticas. ¿Se puede objetivar el análisis (con)textual previo a la traducción? ¿Son relevantes las variables disciplina y lengua para la traducción especializada? Para contestar a estas preguntas, es preciso deshacerse de la visión dualista que ha desconcertado hasta la fecha al traductor. ¿La solución propuesta? Adoptar una perspectiva integradora que tome en cuenta los propósitos comunicativos y las intenciones de los participantes, así como las expectativas de los mismos en pos de garantizar una comunicación exitosa entre los múltiples interventores.
