Many of today's debates about immigration are focused on arguments around the positive and negative effects of increased ethnic diversity and who should be entitled to legal membership. What does it mean politically then to arrive in a country privileged as a legal citizen or co-ethnic? This book is the first to comparatively analyze the political realities of Dutch Antillean citizens in the Netherlands, and Latin American Nikkeijin (Japanese descendants) in Japan, who inherit host state access as post-colonial citizens and ethnic immigrants. Darin liegt ein Appell zum politischen Engagement und eine Kritik am Rückzug ins Private, Gemütliche und Überschaubare. Doch auf welcher Erfahrungsbasis beruht dieser Appell? Welche Rolle spielt etwa die Erfahrung der Empörung für die Motivation politischen Handelns? Und lässt sich aus universalem Mitleid ein neues Ethos für eine globalisierte Welt ableiten?     Biographical note: Philipp Altmann hat am Lateinamerika-Institut der Freien Universität Berlin promoviert. Seine Forschungsschwerpunkte sind Lateinamerika, soziale Bewegungen, Indigene und Kultursoziologie. Die Indigenenbewegung ist trotz ihrer enormen Diversität ein wichtiger sozialer Akteur in der ecuadorianischen Gesellschaft. Seit einer Sattelzeit zwischen Mitte der 1970er und Mitte der 1980er Jahre hat sie einen Diskurs herausgebildet, der identitäre mit klassistischen Positionen verbindet und um die politischen Begriffe indigene Nationalität, Territorialität, Plurinationalität, Interkulturalität und Gutes Leben herum aufgebaut ist. Philipp Altmann zeigt, wie sich dieser Diskurs gegen die koloniale Strukturierung der Gesellschaft und ihre Auswirkungen - wie etwa Diskriminierung und Ungleichheit - wendet und daher dekolonial zu verstehen ist.

    Biographical note: Philipp Altmann hat am Lateinamerika-Institut der Freien Universität Berlin promoviert. Seine Forschungsschwerpunkte sind Lateinamerika, soziale Bewegungen, Indigene und Kultursoziologie. Die Indigenenbewegung ist trotz ihrer enormen Diversität ein wichtiger sozialer Akteur in der ecuadorianischen Gesellschaft. Seit einer Sattelzeit zwischen Mitte der 1970er und Mitte der 1980er Jahre hat sie einen Diskurs herausgebildet, der identitäre mit klassistischen Positionen verbindet und um die politischen Begriffe indigene Nationalität, Territorialität, Plurinationalität, Interkulturalität und Gutes Leben herum aufgebaut ist. Philipp Altmann zeigt, wie sich dieser Diskurs gegen die koloniale Strukturierung der Gesellschaft und ihre Auswirkungen - wie etwa Diskriminierung und Ungleichheit - wendet und daher dekolonial zu verstehen ist.

    Das Handbuch stellt erstmals im deutschsprachigen und internationalen Raum systematisch und vergleichend dar, wie soziale Bewegungen aus einer poststrukturalistischen Perspektive analysiert werden können. Die Beiträge stellen verschiedene Ansätze vor und zeigen jeweils anhand eines Beispiels aus der Forschungspraxis auf, wie dieser Ansatz für die Analyse sozialer Bewegungen genutzt werden kann.
