    This open access book offers innovative and wide-ranging responses to the continuously flourishing literary phenomenon of autofiction. The book shows the insights that are gained in the shift from the genre descriptor to the adjective, and from a broad application of “the autofictional” as a theoretical lens and aesthetic strategy. In three sections on “Approaches,” “Affordances,” and “Forms,” the volume proposes new theoretical approaches for the study of autofiction and the autofictional, offers fresh perspectives on many of the prominent authors in the discussion, draws them into a dialogue with autofictional practice from across the globe, and brings into view texts, forms, and media that have not traditionally been considered for their autofictional dimensions. The book, in sum, expands the parameters of research on autofiction to date to allow new voices and viewpoints to emerge.

Anlass zu diesem Unternehmen bietet die Tatsache, dass antike Autoren wie Aristoteles häufig als Vorläufer für moderne erzähltheoretische Kategorien diskutiert werden. Auch wenn es derartige Korrespondenzen gibt, lässt sich nicht leugnen, dass antike erzähltheoretische Begriffe im Lauf ihrer Rezeption eine Umdeutung erfahren haben. Vor diesem Hintergrund arbeitet diese Monographie die Besonderheiten der antiken Erzähltheorie heraus.Zu diesem Zweck werden die wichtigsten antiken Reflexionen über das Erzählen, die sich in den verschiedensten Texten und Gattungen finden und in andere Diskurse eingebunden sind, in vier Kapiteln präsentiert: Zunächst werden die Grundlagen der antiken Erzähltheorie erklärt. Im zweiten Kapitel werden diejenigen Reflexionen analysiert, die zur Ebene der Geschichte (was wird erzählt?) gehören, bevor im dritten Kapitel diejenigen Überlegungen behandelt werden, die die Art und Weise der Präsentation betreffen. Abschließend wird untersucht, welche Wirkungen von Erzählungen in der Antike diskutiert wurden

    Pen-and-paper role-playing games provide many opportunities for storytelling. This well-informed study takes an application-based approach to develop a narratology of pen-and-paper role-play that sheds light on both the communicative and ludic qualities of the object of study. Its narrative design creates potentials for literature pedagogy, which this volume discusses in connection with narratological modeling Unter dem Begriff ‚Pen-and-Paper-Rollenspiel‘ oder ‚Tabletop-Rollenspiel‘ wird eine Form des Gesellschaftsspiels verstanden, in dem eine Gruppe von Spielenden unter Berücksichtigung eines Regelsystems die Rollen fiktionaler Figuren einnimmt, die innerhalb einer von ihnen erschaffenen fiktionalen Welt existieren und handeln. Aus der Verbindung dieser ludischen und fiktionalen Komponenten ergeben sich Potenziale für das Erzählen, die je nach Gruppenpräferenz und zugrundliegendem Spielsystem auf unterschiedliche Weise realisiert werden. Die vorliegende Studie liefert eine prozessorientierte Erzähltheorie des Pen-and-Paper-Rollenspiels, die durch ihre umfassende theoretische Fundierung Anbindung an die klassische und postklassische Narratologie sowie zentrale ludonarratologische Arbeiten der Game Studies bietet. Entlang der Analyse aufgezeichneter Spielsitzungen und publizierter Spielmaterialien wird ein Erzählmodell entwickelt, das sowohl die Eigenschaften narrativer Kommunikation abbildet als auch zentrale Kategorien inhaltlicher und diskursiver Parameter aufgreift. Aus dieser Konzeption werden literaturvermittelnde Potenziale des Spiels abgeleitet, die den Blick für vielfältige empirische Settings öffnen

    Äußerungen der Hauptkontrahenten im Ukraine-Krieg, Putin und Selenskyi, werden aus narratologischer Sicht daraufhin untersucht, welche Narrative in ihnen auftauchen und wie diese verwendet werden. Indem ihr ursprünglicher und neuer Kontext rekonstruiert und auf mögliche Instrumentalisierung im Blick auf Deutungshoheit und Umdeutung hinterfragt wird, ergibt sich eine Sensibilisierung im Blick auf narrative Konstrukte und Dekonstruktionen in (religiösen) Bildungskontexten. Abstract: Narrative Theory will be used to examine the statements of the main rivals in the Ukraine war, Putin and Selenskyy, to see which narratives appear in their statements and how they are used. By reconstructing the original and new context and inquiring into their possible instrumentalization (power of interpretation, manipulation), strategies of deconstruction become clear for (religious) educational purposes.

    Käte Hamburger - deren Todestag sich im April 2012 zum zwanzigsten Mal gejährt hat - zählt zu den bedeutenden Anregerinnen der modernen Literaturwissenschaft. Ihre theoretischen Arbeiten sind immer wieder als innovative, radikal mit der Tradition brechende Impulse gewertet worden, die die Modernisierung und Szientifizierung der Philologien maßgeblich vorangebracht hätten. Zugleich waren ihre Schriften aber auch Anlass heftiger Kritik: Hamburgers Darstellungsstil, vor allem in "Die Logik der Dichtung", wurde als schwer- und missverständlich, ihre Argumentation als zu apodiktisch und monologisch bezeichnet. Dabei weiß die literaturwissenschaftliche Fachgeschichte immer noch ausnehmend wenig über die theoriegeschichtlichen und systematischen Kontexte, aus denen sich Hamburgers Werk speist. Den in ihre Texte eingestreuten Referenzen auf beispielsweise die allgemeine Kunstwissenschaft der 1920er Jahre, die philosophische Ästhetik des Neukantianismus, die Phänomenologie, die Gestalttheorie, die Denkpsychologie oder auch die Sinn- und Existenzphilosophie der 1930er und 1940er Jahre ist bislang nur sehr vereinzelt Aufmerksamkeit geschenkt worden. Der Band macht einen Vorstoß, dieses Desiderat aufzuarbeiten und in der Zusammenführung verschiedener literaturtheoretischer und philosophiehistorischer Perspektiven Käte Hamburgers Denkansatz im Kontext seiner Entstehung zu rekonstruieren. Es handelt sich um die erweiterte Publikation der Beiträge zum Workshop "Käte Hamburger im Kontext", der am 8. November 2012 an der Universität Stuttgart stattfand. Die Beiträge umfassen ein weites Feld der Kontexte von Hamburgers Laufbahn, die Frage nach dem Verhältnis von Theorie und Praxis in ihren Arbeiten sowie Aspekte der Aktualität ihrer Denkansätze

    Mit Bezug auf Greimas' narrative Semiotik und die Kognitionswissenschaft entwickelt Richter seine Theorie des "narrativen Urteils" als Kernstück "narrativer Problemverhandlung". Eine Erzählung von Erfolg oder Misserfolg eines Handelns stellt ein kontingentes Geschehen dar, fällt aber damit oft gleichzeitig ein Urteil im Namen einer Ordnung, einer Ideologie: Das Gute wird belohnt, das Böse bestraft. Diese Fähigkeit des Erzählens, die Kontingenz des erzählten Einzelnen exemplarisch zu überschreiten oder zu verschleiern, ermöglicht auch die narrative Verhandlung theoretischer Probleme, die im Rahmen der Argumentation unlösbar scheinen. Ausführliche Analysen zweier solcher Problemverhandlungen, des Hiobproblems im Buch Hiob des AT sowie des Theodizeeproblems bei Leibniz, Voltaire, Linné und Kant, zeichnen nach, wie die analoge Projektion einer Erzählstruktur auf die jeweilige Problemkonstellation die Darstellung von Lösungen erlaubt, die innerhalb einer Argumentation willkürliche Setzungen bleiben müssen. Narrative Problemverhandlung kann damit widerstreitende Perspektiven vermitteln und neue Lösungswege zeigen, aber auch willkürliche Urteile zugunsten einer Perspektive rhetorisch zu legitimieren versuchen

    This collection of essays looks at two important manifestations of postclassical narratology, namely transmedial narratology on the one hand, and unnatural narratology on the other. The articles deal with films, graphic novels, computer games, web series, the performing arts, journalism, reality games, music, musicals, and the representation of impossibilities. The essays demonstrate how new media and genres as well as unnatural narratives challenge classical forms of narration in ways that call for the development of analytical tools and modelling systems that move beyond classical structuralist narratology. The articles thus contribute to the further development of both transmedial and unnatural narrative theory, two of the most important manifestations of postclassical narratology

    Recent developments in cognitive narrative theory have called attention to readers' active participation in making sense of narrative. However, while most psychologically inspired models address interpreters' subpersonal (i.e., unconscious) responses, the experiential level of their engagement with narrative remains relatively undertheorized. Building on theories of experience and embodiment within today's "second-generation" cognitive science, and opening a dialogue with so-called "enactivist" philosophy, this book sets out to explore how narrative experiences arise from the interaction between textual cues and readers' past experiences. Caracciolo's study offers a phenomenologically inspired account of narrative, spanning a wide gamut of responses such as the embodied dynamic of imagining a fictional world, empathetic perspective-taking in relating to characters, and "higher-order" evaluations and interpretations. Only by placing a premium on how such modes of engagement are intertwined in experience, Caracciolo argues, can we do justice to narrative's psychological and existential impact on our lives. These insights are illustrated through close readings of literary texts ranging from Émile Zola's Germinal to José Saramago's Blindness

    Die gesamteuropäische Erzähltradition der Sieben weisen Meister ist trotz ihrer langen und breiten Überlieferungsgeschichte vom 12. bis zum 19. Jahrhundert bisher nur in Teilen erschlossen. Die Studie widmet sich dieser Überlieferungsgeschichte und der besonderen erzählerischen Modularität der Exempelsammlung in einer Untersuchung von 12 deutschsprachigen Versionen und Fassungen, die hermeneutische Lektüren, narratologische Formalisierungen und textstatistische Beobachtungen miteinander verbindet. Auf diese Weise geraten zum einen strukturelle Phänomene – textübergreifende und textspezifische Eigenschaften, Logiken des seriellen Erzählens, Formen der Verknüpfung von Rahmen- und Binnenerzählung – in den Blick. Zum anderen erlauben die Vergleiche informierte Textlektüren, die didaktische, juristische, informationstheoretische und geschlechtergeschichtliche Fragestellungen verfolgen und strukturelle Eigenschaften mit möglichen Bearbeitungsintentionen verbinden. In ihrer methodisch-inhaltlichen Ausrichtung verbindet die Studie Formen der Textanalyse aus der Digitalen Literaturwissenschaft mit Perspektiven der Germanistischen Mediävistik This study examines the German tradition of the "Seven Wise Masters" in the form of a digital examination that combines hermeneutical readings, narratological formalization, and statistical textual observations. In this way, it focuses on the principle of serial narration, which has had a considerable impact on narrative traditions, as well as the unique features of individual versions and editions

    This collection of essays looks at two important manifestations of postclassical narratology, namely transmedial narratology on the one hand, and unnatural narratology on the other. The articles deal with films, graphic novels, computer games, web series, the performing arts, journalism, reality games, music, musicals, and the representation of impossibilities. The essays demonstrate how new media and genres as well as unnatural narratives challenge classical forms of narration in ways that call for the development of analytical tools and modelling systems that move beyond classical structuralist narratology. The articles thus contribute to the further development of both transmedial and unnatural narrative theory, two of the most important manifestations of postclassical narratology

    Recent developments in cognitive narrative theory have called attention to readers' active participation in making sense of narrative. However, while most psychologically inspired models address interpreters' subpersonal (i.e., unconscious) responses, the experiential level of their engagement with narrative remains relatively undertheorized. Building on theories of experience and embodiment within today's "second-generation" cognitive science, and opening a dialogue with so-called "enactivist" philosophy, this book sets out to explore how narrative experiences arise from the interaction between textual cues and readers' past experiences. Caracciolo's study offers a phenomenologically inspired account of narrative, spanning a wide gamut of responses such as the embodied dynamic of imagining a fictional world, empathetic perspective-taking in relating to characters, and "higher-order" evaluations and interpretations. Only by placing a premium on how such modes of engagement are intertwined in experience, Caracciolo argues, can we do justice to narrative's psychological and existential impact on our lives. These insights are illustrated through close readings of literary texts ranging from Émile Zola's Germinal to José Saramago's Blindness
