    The volume "The UNESCO Memory of the World Programme: Key Aspects and Recent Developments" responds to the growing interest in the scientific study of the Memory of the World Programme (MoW) and its core concept of documentary heritage, which has received little attention from scholarship so far. This sixth publication in the Heritage Studies Series provides a first collection of differing approaches (including reflected reports, essays, research contributions, and theoretical reflections) for the study of the MoW Programme, offering a basis for follow-up activities. The volume, edited by Ray Edmondson, Lothar Jordan and Anca Claudia Prodan, brings together 21 scholars from around the globe to present aspects deemed crucial for understanding MoW, its development, relevance and potential. The aim is to encourage academic research on MoW and to enhance the understanding of its potential and place within Heritage Studies and beyond.

    The museum and heritage sector has been shaken by debates over how to address colonialism, migration, Islamophobia, LGBTI+ and multiple other forms of difference. This major multi-researcher ethnography of museums and heritage in Berlin provides new insight into how ›diversity‹ is understood and put into action in museums and heritage. Exploring new initiatives and approaches, the book shows how these work - or do not - in practice. By doing so, it highlights ways forward - for research and action - for the future. The fieldwork locations on which this book is based include the Humboldt Forum, the Museum of Islamic Art, the Museum für Naturkunde, and the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, as well as Berlin streets and protests

    Was ist eine Ausstellung? Was macht man, wenn man etwas ausstellt? Kann man sinnvollerweise behaupten, dass Ausstellungen einen Erkenntniswert haben? Thomas Zingelmann entwickelt in seinem Buch anhand zahlreicher Alltagsbeispiele einen differenzierten Ausstellungsbegriff, mit dem es möglich ist, verschiedene Formen und Funktionen von Ausstellungen zu unterscheiden und den Erkenntniswert von Ausstellungen sinnvoll zu begründen. Die mit der Behauptung, dass Ausstellungen zur Erkenntnis beitragen, verbundenen Ansprüche variieren von Vermittlungsfunktionen bis hin zur These, dass Ausstellungen den Wissenschaften äquivalent seien. Man erwartet von Ausstellungen, dass sie mit ihren je eigenen Mitteln zu den verschiedensten Themen Erkenntnisse erzeugen. Dieser Erkenntnisanspruch wird in der Regel kaum begründet, noch in den Kontext gegenwärtiger erkenntnistheoretischer Debatten eingebettet.Allerdings ist diese Diskussion oftmals noch durch eine andere Eigentümlichkeit gekennzeichnet: Was eine Ausstellung ist oder was man macht, wenn man ausstellt, wird wie eine Selbstverständlichkeit behandelt. Eine Philosophie des Ausstellens, die versucht, einen Erkenntniswert von Ausstellungen zu begründen, muss zuallererst aufweisen, was eine Ausstellung ist. Die Arbeit versteht sich im Sinne einer (formalen) Alltagsästhetik, welche Form und Funktion des Selbstverständlichen, Routinierten und Unauffälligen untersucht. Der Autor zeigt, dass Ausstellungen für den Selbst- wie den Weltbezug von Bedeutung sind
