This book analyzes the relationship between tactical silence and freedom in the lives of Mokeddem’s female protagonists in all her novels, published between 1990 and 2008. The notion of deliberate silence also lends itself to a discussion of the reader’s efforts in comprehending Mokeddem’s textual silences as well as her exclusion of certain topics from her writings

Face à un réel qui avait atteint une violence innommable et par défaut de consensus historique, les romancières algériennes, fatalement ébranlées par la recrudescence de la violence en Algérie avec la montée de l’intégrisme islamiste des années 1990, se sont armées de leur plume pour combattre cet obscurantisme impétueux. Tout en reconnaissant la difficulté de dire l’horreur, l’écriture romanesque fonctionne comme un détour, le seul souvent possible pour appréhender l’inimaginable et représenter l’irreprésentable et, surtout, en rendre compte pour ceux qui ne savent pas ou refusent tout simplement de le croire. Témoignages fictionnels au féminin analyse les rapports existant entre le factuel et le fictionnel, entre témoigner et raconter, dans une conjoncture où de telles frontières semblent floues. À travers l’étude des « témoignages fictionnels » d’Assia Djebar, Malika Mokeddem, Leïla Marouane et Latifa Ben Mansour, ce livre tente de répondre à cette question si épineuse: jusqu’à quel degré la littérature est-elle capable de transcender sa propre littérarité à travers un mode d’expression figurative qui représente le réel même? En d’autres termes, comment la volonté de dire la vérité peut-elle s’allier à l’envie de faire de la fiction, sans que la question éthique compromette l’intention esthétique? Bref, comment écrire une fiction du réel?

    Die algerischen Autorinnen Maïssa Bey, Assia Djebar und Malika Mokeddem bezeichnen ihr literarisches Schaffen als Engagement gegen das (Ver-) Schweigen insbesondere der Erfahrungen von Frauen in der Gesellschaft. Wenn Kulturpolitik und nationale Identitätsbildung eng verknüpft sind, ist es von besonderer gesellschaftlicher Bedeutung, dass in Literatur soziale Prozesse, politische Entscheidungen und traditionelle Lebensweisen hinterfragt werden. In der Arbeit wird die narrative Konstruktion weiblicher Identitäten im Spannungsfeld zwischen dem Wunsch nach gesellschaftlicher Zugehörigkeit und dem Bedürfnis nach Freiheit des eigenen Lebensentwurfs in Romanen der drei Autorinnen untersucht. Literatur wird dabei zu einem Ort des Verhandelns alternativer Lebensentwürfe und der expliziten Darstellung von Identitätskrisen in einem postkolonialen Kontext.

    Anhand ausgewählter Werke von vier algerischen Autorinnen, die in Frankreich leben und publizieren (Malika Mokeddem, Lei͏̈la Marouane, Latifa Ben Mansour und Fatima Gallaire), soll dargestellt werden, wie Migrationsautoren in ihren Romanen und Theaterstücken monolithische Konzepte von individueller, nationaler und kultureller Identität und Zugehörigkeit hinterfragen und Hybridität und Unreinheit als identitären Normalzustand begreifen. Im Sinne von postkolonialen Theorien und Konzepten wie Transkulturalität (Fernando Ortiz), Créolisation (Edouard Glissant), Hybridität und interner Differenz (Homi K. Bhabha) wird Identität dabei stets als ein Prozess von Verhandlungen begriffen, der nie abgeschlossen und definitiv ist. Die vier Analysekapitel des Buches widmen sich der Erfahrung eines kulturellen "entre-deux", dem Entwurf weiblicher, von Pluralität gekennzeichneter Genealogien, den Bildern der Reise und des Nomadismus sowie dem Umgang mit Erinnerung. Es wird eine "Ethik der Migration" ablesbar, die im Sinne Bhabhas als "Gegenerzählung" zu in Algerien und Frank-reich dominanten Nationen- und Kulturkonzepten agiert. Das Schlusskapitel spürt schließlich jenen literarischen Strategien nach, die eine derart hybrid und bewegt gedachte Identität ästhetisch umzusetzen vermögen

    Die algerischen Autorinnen Maïssa Bey, Assia Djebar und Malika Mokeddem bezeichnen ihr literarisches Schaffen als Engagement gegen das (Ver-)Schweigen insbesondere der Erfahrungen von Frauen in der Gesellschaft. Wenn Kulturpolitik und nationale Identitätsbildung eng verknüpft sind, ist es von besonderer gesellschaftlicher Bedeutung, dass in Literatur soziale Prozesse, politische Entscheidungen und traditionelle Lebensweisen hinterfragt werden. In der Arbeit wird die narrative Konstruktion weiblicher Identitäten im Spannungsfeld zwischen dem Wunsch nach gesellschaftlicher Zugehörigkeit und dem Bedürfnis nach Freiheit des eigenen Lebensentwurfs in Romanen der drei Autorinnen untersucht. Literatur wird dabei zu einem Ort des Verhandelns alternativer Lebensentwürfe und der expliziten Darstellung von Identitätskrisen in einem postkolonialen Kontext

    Anhand ausgewählter Werke von vier algerischen Autorinnen, die in Frankreich leben und publizieren (Malika Mokeddem, Lei͏̈la Marouane, Latifa Ben Mansour und Fatima Gallaire), soll dargestellt werden, wie Migrationsautoren in ihren Romanen und Theaterstücken monolithische Konzepte von individueller, nationaler und kultureller Identität und Zugehörigkeit hinterfragen und Hybridität und Unreinheit als identitären Normalzustand begreifen. Im Sinne von postkolonialen Theorien und Konzepten wie Transkulturalität (Fernando Ortiz), Créolisation (Edouard Glissant), Hybridität und interner Differenz (Homi K. Bhabha) wird Identität dabei stets als ein Prozess von Verhandlungen begriffen, der nie abgeschlossen und definitiv ist. Die vier Analysekapitel des Buches widmen sich der Erfahrung eines kulturellen "entre-deux", dem Entwurf weiblicher, von Pluralität gekennzeichneter Genealogien, den Bildern der Reise und des Nomadismus sowie dem Umgang mit Erinnerung. Es wird eine "Ethik der Migration" ablesbar, die im Sinne Bhabhas als "Gegenerzählung" zu in Algerien und Frank-reich dominanten Nationen- und Kulturkonzepten agiert. Das Schlusskapitel spürt schließlich jenen literarischen Strategien nach, die eine derart hybrid und bewegt gedachte Identität ästhetisch umzusetzen vermögen.
