    Zu rund 50 Gedichten vom Kürenberger und den sogenannten Tageliedern des Mittelalters bis hin zur Moderne mit wichtigen Protagonisten wie Rilke und Trakl bietet Hermann Wiegmann interpretatorische Hilfe. Ihm lag daran, dass Gedichte ausgewählt wurden, die als repräsentativ für eine literarische Epoche stehen, so vom Mittelalter an über Barock, Aufklärung (mit Rationalismus, Empfindsamkeit, Rokoko, Sturm und Drang), Klassik, Romantik, Realismus, Naturalismus, Impressionismus, Symbolismus, Expressionismus. Er hat versucht, sich die Fragen eines Lesers zu stellen, der auch darüber gegrübelt haben wird, was der Dichter mit bestimmten Verszeilen wohl gemeint haben könnte, und hat versucht, verständlich zu sein und schwierige Textzeilen nicht noch mit aufwendigen literaturwissenschaftlichen Fachtermini zu komplizieren. Wenn sie benutzt werden, weil Ersatzbegriffe an begrifflicher Prägnanz verlieren können, dann sind sie stets erklärt.

    The book is the first monograph which examines the correspondences between the oeuvre of Jack Kerouac and the thought of Jacques Lacan, the two apparently incompatible worlds which prove to be complementary when taking a closer look. The study demonstrates a number of points. Firstly, with Jacques Lacan as a silent partner, it helps to better understand why psychoanalysis won Kerouac’s enmity in the mid-1950s. It also delves into Lacan’s reflections on spontaneous free-association to prove their convergence with Beats’ literary tactics. In its final part, by employing Lacanian theory, the book offers an extensive insight into Kerouac’s oeuvre to excavate the problematic status of the father figure, a crucial matter not yet given a rigorous critical attention

    Die in der europäischen Kulturgeschichte zentrale Imagination des Orients als Spiegel des 'Anderen' erlebt in der Kunst und Literatur der Jahrhundertwende eine besondere Variation: In ihrer amoralischen, erotisch-perversen Dimension wird die orientalische Phantasie zu einem der bevorzugten Orte der modernen Identitätskrise. Signifikante Spuren des in der anglo-französichen Kultur dominanten Orientalismus finden sich auch in der Literatur deutschsprachiger Länder: nicht nur in den ästhetizistischen und dekadenten Strömungen (Hugo von Hofmannsthal, Richard Beer-Hofmann, Thomas Mann, Rainer Maria Rilke), sondern auch im Jugendstil (Otto Julius Bierbaum) und Expressionismus (Else Lasker-Schüler). Ausgehend von einem kulturgeschichtlichen Ansatz - mit einem Exkurs in die ornamentale Kunst der Jahrhundertwende - untersucht diese Arbeit in einzelnen Aufsätzen zu repräsentativen Autoren die Metapher des Orients in der deutschsprachigen Literatur der Jahrhundertwende. Der abschließende Essay über Joseph Roths Geschichte der 1002.
