    Tabus sind Phänomene, die anwesend abwesend sind. Sein Bruch wohnt dem Tabu als Tabu/Bruch bereits inne. Diese Gleichzeitigkeiten wurden in der vorliegenden Arbeit dazu genutzt, das Tabu als Denkmodell zu bestimmen, um Theater und Gesellschaft aus der konstitutiven Präsenz in der Absenz des Tabus aufeinander zu beziehen. Das Theater ist dabei selbst Grenzort von Fiktions- und Realprozessen, das an seinen inneren und äusseren Grenzen als Kommunikationsraum zwischen Kunst und Gesellschaft das Tabu ebenso wie den Tabubruch zur Darstellung zu bringt. Dem Zusammenhang dieser Trias von Tabu, Theater und Gesellschaft wird in der Studie Rechnung getragen, indem diskursive Felder errichtet werden, in denen das Tabu sowohl als ordnendes Prinzip als auch als Katalysator einer dynamischen Moderne im ständigen Spiel zwischen Konstruktion und Störung, Normalität und Anormalität, Kunst und Leben, befindlich ist. Mit Oskar Panizzas Liebeskonzil, Frank Wedekinds Erdgeist und der Büchse der Pandora sowie Arthur Schnitzlers Reigen werden um 1900 exemplarisch performative Überschreitungsmodelle ausgewiesen, die dem Tabu und dessen Bruch eine relevante ästhetische Funktion zusprechen
