    It is unusual for a single scholar practically to reorient an entire sub-field of study, but this is what Chris Stray has done for the history of UK classical scholarship. His remarkable combination of interests in the sociology of scholars and scholarship, in the history of the book and of publishing, and (especially) in the detailed intellectual contextualisation of classical scholarship as a form of classical reception has fundamentally changed the way the history of British classics and its study is viewed. A generation ago the history of classical scholarship still consisted largely of accounts of particular scholars and groups of scholars written by other scholars from a broadly biographical and 'heroic individual' perspective. In these works scholars often sought to find their own place in the great tradition, choosing to praise or blame those whose work they admired or deprecated, and to identify with particular schools or trends, and there were few attempts to provide a broader and less prosopographical perspective. Almost all the chapters in the volume originated as papers at a conference in honour of the honorand, and have been improved both by discussion there and by the rigorous peer-review process conducted by the two experienced editors. It covers various aspects of classical reception, with a particular focus on the history of scholars, their institutions, and their writings; the main focus is on the UK, but there are also substantial engagements with continental Europe and (especially) the USA; the period covered runs from the Renaissance to the present. The cast contains a number of world-famous names. Unusually, the volume also contains an essay by the honorand, but we are very keen to include this, especially as it focusses on the topic of scholarly collaboration.

    Abstract: Als im Italien des 14. Jahrhunderts entstandene kulturelle Bewegung diffundierte der Humanismus seit Mitte des 15. Jahrhunderts in zahlreiche europäische Länder nördlich der Alpen und griff in den Gebieten des Heiligen Römischen Reiches allmählich seit den 1450er Jahren Raum. Im Gegensatz zu Italien, wo der Humanismus zunächst eine außeruniversitäre Bewegung war, die an den italienischen Universitäten erst in den 1420er Jahren Fuß fasste, hatte er im Reich von Anfang an eine starke universitäre Präsenz. Dass der Humanismus dabei – so die im Folgenden zu entfaltende These – eine gegenüber den säkularen Bedürfnissen der Gesellschaft offenere Formation von Wissen repräsentierte als die scholastisch-logisch ausgerichtete universitäre Lehre, soll am Beispiel der humanistischen Sprachbildung gezeigt werden: Nachdem in einem ersten Schritt die Frage nach dem Zusammenhang von humanistischer Universitätsreform und gesellschaftlichen Qualifikationsbedürfnissen ...

    Abstract: Der vorliegende Aufsatz ist der begrifflich-theoretischen Hochschulbildungsforschung zuzuordnen. Es wird ein konzeptioneller Theorierahmen für die moderne Hochschuldidaktik vorgeschlagen. Dieser kann zur Präzisierung von Erkenntnisweisen und zur Abgrenzung von Forschungsmethodiken herangezogen werden. Im Gegensatz zu bestehenden Ansätzen wird dabei nicht der Anschluss an eine oder mehrere etablierte Disziplinen gesucht. Ziel ist es vielmehr, Orientierungshypothesen für eine paradigmatische Neuausrichtung zu formulieren: In Rückbesinnung auf ihre ursprüngliche Programmatik im Zuge der Hochschulreformbewegung der 1960er Jahre wird hier ein integrativer Referenzrahmen aufgespannt, anhand dessen sich Hochschuldidaktik als ein Unterfangen beschreiben lässt, das seine interdisziplinäre Anlage zugunsten einer transdisziplinären Ausrichtung überwinden sollte. (DIPF/Orig.) Abstract: This study falls under the conceptual-theoretical category of higher education research. It suggests a conceptual theoretical framework for current instructional design in higher education. This can be used to define research methodologies and ways of knowing. The aim is rather to formulate orientation hypotheses for a paradigmatic reorientation: In recalling its original program in the course of the higher education reform movement of the 1960s, an integrative frame of reference is established, on the basis of which higher education didactics can be described as an undertaking that should overcome its interdisciplinary structure in favor of a transdisciplinary orientation.
