Die versammelten sechzehn Essays dieser Festschrift, die Eckart Schütrumpf von Freunden und Kollegen zugeeignet ist, würdigen seine einflussreiche Arbeit. Die Vielfalt der Themen sowie der sprachlichen Varianz (Englisch, Deutsch, Italienisch) spiegeln die große Bandbreite der Forschungsinteressen Schütrumpfs wider. Der Band umfasst Studien zur antiken Philosophie, Geschichte, Politik und Literaturwissenschaft. Die einzelnen Beiträge befassen sich u.a. mit der Rekonstruktion sokratischen Gedankenguts im Protagoras, mit dem Aufbau und der Geschichte der Werke von Platon und Aristoteles. Sie thematisieren aber auch platonische und aristotelische Vorstellungen von Gerechtigkeit, guter Regierungsführung und Poetik – und behandelt zudem ihre Rezeption bei Plutarch und Horace. Des Weiteren wird ein Blick auf die Geschichte und Historiographie von Sizilien, Olympia, Arkadien und Sparta geworfen und die historischen Wechselwirkungen zu frühchristlichen Erzählungen herausgestellt. Weitere Beiträge beschäftigen sich mit der Malerei von Giovanni Francesco Barbieri und Nicolas Poussin, mit deutscher Propaganda-Rhetorik vom 19. bis 21. Jahrhundert und mit der Literaturtheorie von Stefan Zweig. The sixteen essays in this Festschrift, presented to Eckart Schütrumpf by his friends and colleagues, pay tribute to his influential work. The variety of topics – as well as the linguistic diversity (English, German, and Italian) – reflects the wide scope of Schütrumpf’s research interests. Philosophical contributions consider definitions of justice, the theoretical life, good governance, the proper care for others, and the nature of the Platonic Socrates. Other contributions investigate the tradition of Platonic and Aristotelian thought in Plutarch and Horace. Historical essays consider Thucydides’ relationship to Herodotus, the reception of tales of apotheosis in early Christian narratives, and the processes through which Olympia developed into a sacred space of Panhellenic significance. The collection concludes with more modern considerations: the idealization of Arcadia in the painting of Giovanni Francesco Barbieri and Nicolas Poussin, the appropriation of Spartan themes in the German sloganeering of the 19th to the 21st century, and Stephan Zweig’s conviction that historiography and literature can facilitate worldwide community.
