    The chapters in this volume present a range of compelling case studies drawn from a broad cross-section of local communities around the world, reflecting diverse cultural and geographical contexts. From Greenland to northern Tanzania, it illuminates how different understandings evolve in diverse cultural and geographical contexts while also revealing some common patterns of how people make sense of climate change. Global Warming in Local Discourses constitutes a significant, new contribution to understanding the multi-perspectivity of our debates on climate change, further highlighting the need for interdisciplinary study within this area.

    The book addresses the relationship between the literary representations of North Greenland and the Inughuit people in Knud Rasmussen’s expedition accounts The New People and My Travel Diary and the historical process of Danish colonization of North Greenland. The aim of reading both works is to demonstrate the ambivalence in representing North Greenland and the Inughuit, and, through this, to prove the existence of common mechanisms and cultural practices connected to mapping of the Other in a situation of asymmetric power relations. Applying a textual approach founded on colonial discourse analysis, the reading proves that literary mappings of geography and identity can never be stable, as they are in the state of constant transformation, perpetually recontextualized and reinvented.

    Indigenous cultures have an integrated relationship with nature, and do not view it in opposition to culture, nor do they consider humans as separate from the environment. For example, the concepts of nuna and sila and the figure of Sedna, at the basis of the traditional Inuit thought, decenter the role of humans in the living world. In 2009, Greenlandic author Lana Hansen published a »tale about climate change«, Sila . She calls for a holistic view, using concepts that encompass humans, animals, languages, spirits, memories, plants, and resources. This article aims to review the context of publication of Hansen’s tale from a point of view of Greenlandic and Inuit literature and to examine the traditional sources that it brings into play. Indigene Kulturen stehen in einheitlicher Verbindung mit der Natur, betrachten diese weder als kulturellen Gegensatz noch den Menschen als von der Umwelt getrennt. Die Begriffe nuna und sila beispielsweise und die Gestalt der Sedna, die dem traditionellen Denken der Inuit zugrunde liegen, marginalisieren die Rolle des Menschen in seiner Lebenswelt. 2009 veröffentlicht die grönländische Autorin Lana Hansen eine »Erzählung über den Klimawandel«, Sila . Sie plädiert darin für eine ganzheitliche Sichtweise und verwendet Konzepte, die Menschen, Tiere, Sprachen, Geister, Erinnerungen, Pflanzen und Ressourcen einbeziehen. Dieser Artikel kontextualisiert Hansens Erzählung aus Sicht der grönländischen und der Inuit-Literatur und untersucht die mit eingebrachten traditionellen Quellen.

    Under Action 14, countries have committed to implement a minimum standard to strengthen the effectiveness and efficiency of the mutual agreement procedure (MAP). The MAP is included in Article 25 of the OECD Model Tax Convention and commits countries to endeavour to resolve disputes related to the interpretation and application of tax treaties. The Action 14 Minimum Standard has been translated into specific terms of reference and a methodology for the peer review and monitoring process. The peer review process is conducted in two stages. Stage 1 assesses countries against the terms of reference of the minimum standard according to an agreed schedule of review. Stage 2 focuses on monitoring the follow-up of any recommendations resulting from jurisdictions' Stage 1 peer review report. This report reflects the outcome of the Stage 1 peer monitoring of the implementation of the Action 14 Minimum Standard by Greenland.

    "Many of John Møller's photos are in a critical condition due to age and Inuuteq Storch had to embark on a comprehensive editorial process to save a significant part of Greenlandic history. In his image processing, Inuuteq Storch has worked with respect for the original photograph and left minor imperfections but has adjusted for damage resulting from exposure to sun and humidity and major damage such as the photo being torn.     In this working paper, we explore these questions based on analysis of a dataset of mining and mineral exploration projects covering all the major commodities or commodity groups in six Arctic countries or territories - Canada, Greenland, Finland, Sweden, Norway and Alaska. We do so through an approach that moves beyond ownership of mines as a measurement of control. Mine ownership in itself has little significance for where the raw materials go to be processed. Industry demand and supply security hinge more on highly processed materials and advanced products than bulk raw materials. Our approach is instead to assess Chinese control over mineral flows from the Arctic using a comprehensive set of 'control parameters'. Compared to an ownership-based approach, we begin one step further upstream in the supply chain - at mineral exploration - and look one step further downstream, by taking into account control via, for example, offtake agreements or monopoly over processing technology. We find that Chinese companies are involved in a very small share of Arctic projects overall, that their activities cover a very wide range of commodities, most of which are focused on exploration, and that they are heavily concentrated in Canada. The scale of Chinese involvement might, however, be more extensive than our data shows because many Western miners view Chinese companies as their natural - and first choice - offtake partners. It is thus likely that many companies expect to sell to China but have not entered into a formal offtake agreement, or that we have just not been able to find evidence of such agreements. Our findings also suggest that while Chinese engagement in the Arctic mineral sector has been limited, the investments that have been made appear to support China's mineral strategy relatively well. This is evident from both the range of commodities that are targeted and from variations in degree of control across commodities that are differently prioritised in China's mineral strategy.
