    Diese Sonderausgabe von Voluntaris beleuchtet den Einfluss von internationalen Entwicklungs-freiwilligen auf die Gleichstellung der Geschlechter und die Stärkung der Rolle der Frau im globalen Süden. Die für diese Sonderausgabe gesammelten Daten unterstreichen verschiedene zentrale Beiträge von Freiwilligen in Bereichen wie Capacity Building, interkulturelle Beziehungen, frauen- bzw. geschlechtsspezifische Programme, soziale Innovation und wirtschaftliche Stärkung von Frauen und der Wahrnehmung von Feminismus, indem sie Männlichkeit und die Einbeziehung von Männern und Jungen, die politische und wirtschaftliche Teilhabe von Frauen und die Einflussmöglichkeiten der Basis thematisieren. Mit Beiträgen von Tiffany Laursen, Benjamin Lough, Tabitha Mirza, Rika Mpogazi, Lan Nguyen, Nnenna Okoli, Leva Rouhani, Khursheed Sadat, Somed Shahadu Bitamsimli, Pascale Saint-Denis und Rebecca Tiessen Many studies have highlighted benefits of international volunteering, particularly the positive impacts for the volunteers themselves. Adding to this scholarship, the papers in the collection fill an important gap in our understanding of the impact of international development volunteering from the perspective of partner organization staff who work collaboratively with international development volunteers to promote gender equality and womens empowerment. The collection provides insights into negotiated spaces and mutual learning as well as the unique role international development volunteers play as transnational actors by working closely with staff in development organizations.     This open access book provides methodological devices and analytical frameworks for the study of societies in transformation. It explores a central paradox in the study of change: making sense of change requires long-term perspectives on societal transformations and on the different ways people experience social change, whereas the research carried out to study change is necessarily limited to a relatively short space of time. This volume offers a range of methodological responses to this challenge by paying attention to the complex entanglement of qualitative research and the metanarratives generally used to account for change. Each chapter is based on a concrete case study from different parts of the world and tackles a diversity of topics, analytical approaches, and data collection methods.     Öffentlichkeit ist der zentrale Begriff in Diskussionen über Demokratie und politische Partizipation. Johanna Montanari erweitert den Öffentlichkeitsbegriff postkolonial, indem sie den globalen Süden nicht als defizitären Raum »nachholender Modernisierung« beschreibt, sondern die Anstrengungen um die Herstellung von Öffentlichkeit unter eingeschränkt demokratischen Bedingungen ernst nimmt. Anhand der journalistischen Praxis einer englischsprachigen Tageszeitung in Jordanien zeigt sie, dass Öffentlichkeit immer kuratiert wird und sich universal verstandene Versprechen der Moderne lokal aneignet. Ihre Ergebnisse fordern zur Reflexion der Auslassungen westlicher Diskurse auf.

    In einer ländlichen Region Ugandas (Busoga) versuchen die Menschen ihren durch den zunehmenden Einfluss der Globalisierung erschwerten Lebensbedingungen zu begegnen und sich Handlungsspielräume zu schaffen. Aus postkolonialer Perspektive untersucht die Autorin die Rolle solidarischen Wirtschaftens hierbei. Dessen Nutzen als Überlebensstrategie wird ebenso beleuchtet wie sein Potenzial, Alternativen zu konventionellen Ansätzen wirtschaftlicher Entwicklung zu denken. An die Stelle westlichen „Expertentums“ tritt gelebte Erfahrung aus dem globalen Süden. Die Autorin beschreibt den Einfluss der Globalisierung auf den Alltag der Bevölkerung sowie auf soziale Ungleichheiten und stellt ihren postkolonialen Forschungsansatz detailliert dar. In a rural region of Uganda (Busoga), people are trying to manage their everyday lives and gain agency despite the negative effects of globalisation on their living conditions. In this book, from a postcolonial perspective, the author examines the role of solidarity-based economic activities in that process. She illuminates both the usefulness of solidarity-based economic activities as a survival strategy and their potential to offer alternatives to conventional approaches to economic development. Western ‘expertise’ is replaced by lived experiences from the global South. The author describes the influence of globalisation on the everyday life of the population as well as on social inequalities and presents her postcolonial research approach in detail.

    Die Wirtschaftskrise hat in den südeuropäischen Ländern neue Migrationstrends in Gang gesetzt. In Portugal ging die Migration nach der Krise vor allem in zwei Richtungen: nach Norden in die wohlhabenderen europäischen Länder und nach Süden in die ehemaligen portugiesischen Kolonien in Afrika - vor allem in das ölproduzierende Angola. Der Migration aus dem globalen Norden in den globalen Süden wurde in den Migrationstheorien bislang wenig Aufmerksamkeit geschenkt. Der Autor argumentiert, dass die portugiesische Migration nach Angola nicht nur als Folge der Wirtschaftskrise verstanden werden sollte, sondern auch als ein komplexes Geflecht von Überschneidungen im Kontext der portugiesischen Kultur, des sprachlichen Erbe in Angola, von familiären Netzwerken, Diskursen, Mythen und kolonialer Macht The economic crisis set in motion new migration trends in southern European countries. In Portugal, post-crisis migration has occurred in two main directions: northwards to more prosperous European countries and southwards to former Portuguese colonies in Africa—notably oil-producing Angola. Migration from the Global North to the Global South has received little attention in migration theories. In this study, the author argues that Portuguese migration to Angola should be understood not only as a result of the economic crisis, but also as a complex web of intersections in the context of Portuguese culture, Portugal’s linguistic heritage in Angola, family networks, discourses, myths and colonial power

    Bei seiner Einführung 2008 wurde das weltwärts-Programm als „Einbahnstraße“ kritisiert. Im Jahr 2013 startete schließlich die Süd-Nord-Komponente, die zu einem gleichberechtigten Austausch zwischen den Partnern im Globalen Norden und Süden beitragen soll. Doch lässt sich das Konzept des Förderprogramms einfach umdrehen und dadurch in eine Begegnung „auf Augenhöhe“ verwandeln?In diesem Band identifiziert Daniel Skoruppa strukturelle Machtverhältnisse und deren Auswirkungen auf verschiedene Ebenen innerhalb der weltwärts Süd-Nord-Komponente. Welche Rollen werden den Süd-Freiwilligen und den sogenannten Part¬nerorganisationen zugeschrieben? Wie werden Wissen, Zuständigkeiten und Ressourcen verteilt? Welche Herausforderungen ergeben sich für die pädagogische Begleitung? Und welche Strategien für einen sensiblen Umgang mit ungleichen Positionierungen der Akteure lassen sich hieraus für die Praxis ableiten?Zentrale Konzepte des Programms wie Entwicklung, Weltbürgertum oder Peer-to-Peer werden re-interpretiert und durch neue Ansätze wie Powersharing, Empowerment und multilaterale Freiwilligendienstformate ergänzt. Die Analyse knüpft damit an die Ergebnisse der rassismuskritisch-postkolonial geprägten Debatte um weltwärts an und überträgt diese erstmals und umfangreich auf den Süd-Nord-Kontext.
