    Gastfreundschaft und Gastlichkeit wurden in den letzten drei Jahren in Deutschland vor allem unter dem Begriff ''Willkommenskultur'' diskutiert. Sind wir Fremden gegenüber zur Gastlichkeit verpflichtet? Müssen wir Schutzbedürftigen Türen und Grenzen öffnen? Was können wir von unseren Gästen im Gegenzug erwarten? Und was bedeutet Gastlichkeit im Wertebild Europas? Die Autoren des vorliegenden Sammelbandes nähern sich diesen Fragen aus verschiedenen wissenschaftlichen Perspektiven. Sie zeigen, dass Gastfreundschaft und Gastlichkeit in der Menschheitsgeschichte omnipräsent sind – ob auf den Handelsrouten des Mittelalters, im von Nazi-Deutschland besetzten Frankreich oder bei türkischen Gastarbeitern in den 1970er-Jahren.     Der Umgang mit der Kolonialgeschichte, die hierzulande lange im Schatten der Aufarbeitung des Nationalsozialismus und des Holocaust stand, unterliegt gegenwärtig einem grundlegenden Wandel. Zwar zählt auch Deutschland faktisch zu den postkolonialen Gesellschaften Europas, doch ist diese Tatsache kaum in das Bewusstsein der Menschen und in das Handeln der Politik vorgedrungen. Der Sammelband zieht Bilanz und will zugleich die notwendige Auseinandersetzung um eine Dekolonisierung globaler wie lokaler Machtverhältnisse und eine Dekolonialisierung der immer noch dominierenden Wissens- und Deutungsmacht des "Westens" anregen. Die aktuellen Debatten um den Völkermord an den Herero und Nama oder die koloniale Beutekunst im geplanten Humboldt Forum in Berlin richten den Fokus ein ums andere Mal auf eine koloniale Vergangenheit, die nicht vergehen will

    « Comic books for adults have become one of the most novel and colourful forms of cultural expression in the Arab world today. During the last ten years, young Arabs have crafted stories explaining issues such as authoritarianism, resistance, war, sex, gender relations and youth culture. These are distributed through informal channels as well as independent bookstores and websites. Events like the annual Cairocomix festival in Egypt and the Mahmoud Kahil Award in Lebanon evidence the importance of this cultural phenomenon. ‘Comics in Contemporary Arab Culture’ focuses on the production of these comics in Egypt and Lebanon, countries at the forefront of the development of the genre for adults. Jacob Hoigilt guides the reader through the emergence of independent comics, explores their social and political critique, and analyses their visual and verbal rhetoric. Analysing more than 50 illustrations, included here, he shows that Arab comics are revealing of the changing attitudes towards politics, social relations and even language. While political analysts often paint a bleak picture of the Arab world after 2011, this book suggests that art and storytelling continue to nourish a spirit of liberty and freedom despite political setbacks.
