Während der langen 30 Jahre der Kolonialpolitik wurde Rassismus biopolitisch und gesellschaftsprägendes Paradigma.Ulrike Hamann zeigt, welche spezifischen Artikulationen des Rassismus wann aktuell waren und wie diese sich mit der kolonialen und nationalen Politik verbanden. Ausgangspunkt der Analyse sind dabei erstmals nicht die »Rasse«-Theorien, sondern die Widerstände dagegen in einer postkolonialen Lesart. Durch die Schriften von Mary Church Terrell, W.E.B. Du Bois und Rudolf Duala Manga Bell werden die Artikulationen des deutschen Rassismus benannt - aber auch gesellschaftliche Gegenbilder entworfen Which crises did racism suffer through the struggles of black people in the German colonial empire? During the long 30 years of colonial politics, racism became a biopolitical and society-shaping paradigm. Ulrike Hamann shows which specific articulations of racism were current at which times, and how these were connected with colonial and national policies. The point of departure of the analysis is not in the first instance theories of »race« , but rather the resistance against these, through a postcolonial reading. From the writings of Mary Church Terrell, W.E.B. Du Bois and Duala Manga Bell, a panorama of the articulations of racism in Germany emerges - but also its social counter model

    This paper examines point and density forecasts of real GDP growth, inflation and unemployment from the European Central Bank’s Survey of Professional Forecasters. We present individual uncertainty measures and introduce individual point- and density-based measures of disagreement. The data indicate substantial heterogeneity and persistence in respondents’ uncertainty and disagreement, with uncertainty associated with prominent respondent effects and disagreement associated with prominent time effects. We also examine the co-movement between uncertainty and disagreement and find an economically insignificant relationship that is robust to changes in the volatility of the forecasting environment. This provides further evidence that disagreement is not a reliable proxy for uncertainty

Während der langen 30 Jahre der Kolonialpolitik wurde Rassismus biopolitisch und gesellschaftsprägendes Paradigma.Ulrike Hamann zeigt, welche spezifischen Artikulationen des Rassismus wann aktuell waren und wie diese sich mit der kolonialen und nationalen Politik verbanden. Ausgangspunkt der Analyse sind dabei erstmals nicht die »Rasse«-Theorien, sondern die Widerstände dagegen in einer postkolonialen Lesart. Durch die Schriften von Mary Church Terrell, W.E.B. Du Bois und Rudolf Duala Manga Bell werden die Artikulationen des deutschen Rassismus benannt - aber auch gesellschaftliche Gegenbilder entworfen. Which crises did racism suffer through the struggles of black people in the German colonial empire? During the long 30 years of colonial politics, racism became a biopolitical and society-shaping paradigm. Ulrike Hamann shows which specific articulations of racism were current at which times, and how these were connected with colonial and national policies. The point of departure of the analysis is not in the first instance theories of »race« , but rather the resistance against these, through a postcolonial reading. From the writings of Mary Church Terrell, W.E.B. Du Bois and Duala Manga Bell, a panorama of the articulations of racism in Germany emerges - but also its social counter model.

    This paper assesses information contained in the micro dataset of the ECB Survey of Professional Forecasters regarding quarterly Brent crude oil price forecasts. We examine the expectations building mechanism by referring to the processing of information and confirm the presence of information rigidity within the crude oil market. However, our findings also show that simple models of imperfect information considered in the literature are insufficient to explain the behavior of professional forecasters. We provide additional stylized facts which are helpful for designing more elaborate imperfect information models.

    We investigate whether ESG ratings predict future ESG news and the associated market reactions. We find that the consensus rating predicts future news, but its predictive ability diminishes for firms with large disagreement between raters. Relation between news and market reaction is moderated by the consensus rating. In the presence of high disagreement between raters, the relation between news and market reactions weakens while the rating with most predictive power predicts future stock returns. Overall, while rating disagreement hinders the incorporation of value relevant ESG news into prices, ratings predict future news and proxy for market expectations of future news

    This paper provides a new perspective on the exchange rate disconnect puzzle by referring to the expectations building mechanism in foreign exchange markets. Therefore, we analyze the role of expectations regarding macroeconomic fundamentals for expected exchange rate changes. In doing so, we assess data for 31 economies from 2002 to 2017 and consider expectations regarding GDP growth, in ation, interest rates and current accounts. Our empirical findings identify an impact of expected fundamentals, which is not fully consistent with traditional fundamentals models. We especially highlight the relevance of the PPP theory for the expectations building mechanism due to the robust finding that in ation expectations are able to explain expected exchange rate changes in line with the purchasing power parity. We also find that the expectation building process differs remarkably between the periods prior and after the global financial crisis since the impact of GDP growth expectations clearly disappears for the second subsample period, which can be explained by the scapegoat approach. Finally, we also find that in ation expectations affect both the dispersion across forecasters and realized forecast errors.
