It is usually treated as a label, arrived at by professionals, to explain a problem and to point to treatment. This view of diagnosis fits 0the medical model0. Authors in this book view diagnosis as a process, not a label. Diagnosis involves a negotiation of power relationships as well as of professional accountability. The chapters reveal how today’s professionals and non-professionals use diagnosis to explain medical problems and also to explore how a diagnosis affects the identities of those diagnosed. In addition, some chapters show how diagnostic reasoning occurs in unexpected contexts such as when writing letters of recommendation and talking about communication. Together, a diverse array of authors from various backgrounds, highlight the many ways that diagnosis is deeply rooted in today’s culture.

    Patienten mit psychischen Störungen und substanzgebun-denem Suchtverhalten (Doppeldiagnose-Patienten) haben in den letzten Jahren im medizinischen und psychosozialen Versorgungssystem deutlich zugenommen. Patienten mit Dop-peldiagnosen werfen eine Vielzahl von Unsicherheiten hinsichtlich Diagnose, Indikation und Intervention auf und sind für Fachleute des ambulanten und stationären Bereichs diagnostisch wie therapeutisch gleichermaßen anspruchsvoll. In diesem Band wird ein Überblick zu den wichtigsten Aspekten von Doppeldiagnosen gegeben. Er schließt damit eine seit langem bestehende Lücke im Bereich der psychologischen Behandlung. Epidemiologie, Ätiologie, Diagnostik und Indikation werden kurz und übersichtlich beschrieben. Es wird dargestellt, wie beide Störungen im ambulanten und im stationären Rahmen integrativ psychotherapeutisch behandelt werden können. Damit Doppeldiagnose-Patienten dauerhafte Verbesserungen im physischen, psychischen und sozialen Bereich erzielen, wird die Notwendigkeit zur interdisziplinären Zusammenarbeit aufgezeigt.     Abstract: Lehr-Lern-Labore bieten Studierenden die Möglichkeit, in authentischen komplexitätsreduzierten Lernumgebungen professionelle Kompetenzen zu entwickeln. Sie unterstützen Studierende darin, praktische Erfahrungen mit Lernenden zu sammeln, Lehr-Lern-Prozesse umfassend zu verstehen und erfolgreich zu gestalten. Dadurch bieten sie unter anderem eine Gelegenheit der Auseinandersetzung mit aktuellen Herausforderungen des Lehrberufs. In diesem interdisziplinär angelegten Band stehen professionelle Kompetenzen, die (angehende) Lehrkräfte für die durch digitale Medien unterstützte Vermittlung von Schülerkompetenzen in heterogenen Lerngruppen benötigen, im Mittelpunkt. Die einzelnen Fachbeiträge präsentieren die Konzeptionen der Lehr-Lern-Labore mit dem Schwerpunkt der Nutzung digitaler Medien. Marie Frühauf nimmt in ihrer feministisch-lacanianisch angelegten Studie jenes Begehren in den Blick, das Fachkräfte an Vielfalt heften. It is usually treated as a label, arrived at by professionals, to explain a problem and to point to treatment. This view of diagnosis fits 0the medical model0. Authors in this book view diagnosis as a process, not a label. Diagnosis involves a negotiation of power relationships as well as of professional accountability. The chapters reveal how today’s professionals and non-professionals use diagnosis to explain medical problems and also to explore how a diagnosis affects the identities of those diagnosed. In addition, some chapters show how diagnostic reasoning occurs in unexpected contexts such as when writing letters of recommendation and talking about communication.     This book is about the doing and experiencing of diagnosis in everyday life. Diagnoses are revealed as interactive negotiations rather than as the assigning of diagnostic labels. The authors demonstrate, through detailed discourse analyses, how the diagnostic process depends on power and accountability as expressed through the talk of those engaged in the diagnostic process. The authors also show that diagnostic decisions are not only made by professional experts trained in the art and science of diagnosis, but they can also be made by anyone trying to figure out the nature of everyday problems. Finally, diagnostic reasoning is found to extend beyond typical diagnostic situations, occurring in unexpected places such as written letters of recommendation and talk about the nature of communication. Together, the chapters in this book demonstrate how diagnosis is a communication practice deeply rooted in our culture. The book is interdisciplinary and unusually broad in its focus. The authors come from different experiential scholarly backgrounds. Each of them takes a different look at the impact and nature of the diagnostic process. The diagnoses discussed include autism, Alzheimer's disease, speech and language disorders, and menopause. The focus is not only on the here and now of the diagnostic interaction, but also on how diagnoses and diagnostic processes change over time. The book can serve as an undergraduate or graduate text for courses offered in various disciplines, including communication, sociology, anthropology, communication disorders, audiology, linguistics, medicine, and disability studies

Das gilt auch für Bilder in der medizinischen Diagnostik: Im Visualisierungsprozess diagnostischer Abbildungen werden zum einen Strukturen und Zusammenhänge sichtbar gemacht, die zuvor unsichtbar waren. Zum anderen muss über Lese- und Denkprozesse die Evidenz in das Bild implementiert werden. Allerdings sind diese Bilder primär durch Mehrdeutigkeit und Unbestimmtheit geprägt, was Strategien der Evidenzproduktion erfordert. Hierzu gehören der Einsatz geschulter Zeichner am Mikroskop, die Produktion von Diagrammen auf Basis von Messwerten, der versierte Einsatz von Endoskopen sowie die physikalisch-chemische Erzeugung von Radiogrammen zur Sichtbarmachung des Körperinneren. Die Evidenz diagnostischer Abbildungen unterliegt also immer bestimmten Verfahren und Strategien der Evidenzzuschreibung. Sie bleibt eine nützliche Fiktion, die überaus vielfältig und immer kontextabhängig ist. Heiner Fangerau und Michael Martin sprechen deshalb statt von Evidenz im Singular von den Evidenzen diagnostischer Bilder im Plural.

    Knowledge and Rhetoric in Medical Commentary is intended for historians of medicine and interpretation, and explores the dynamic between scholastic rhetoric and medical knowledge in ancient commentaries on a Mesopotamian Diagnostic Handbook. In line with commentators’ self-fashioning as experts of diverse disciplines, commentaries display intertextuality involving a variety of lexical, astronomical, religious, magic, and literary compositions, while employing patterns of argumentation that resist categorization within any single branch of knowledge. Commentators’ choices of topics and comments, however, sought to harmonize atypical language and ideas in the Handbook with conventional ways of perceiving and describing the sick body in therapeutic recipes. Scholastic rhetoric—supposedly unfettered to any discipline—served in fact as a pretext for affirming current forms of medical knowledge

    Abstract: Außerschulische Praktika sind trotz ihrer geografisch und historisch unterschiedlichen Ausgestaltungen konstanter Bestandteil der Lehrkräftebildung in Deutschland. Eine Diskussion ihres Beitrags zur Professionalisierung angehender Lehrkräfte steht ebenso aus wie ein Versuch, die Vielfalt der Ausgestaltungsmöglichkeiten darzulegen.
