    Für die Krönung von Georg II. komponierte Georg Friedrich Händel 4 Krönungshymnen (Coronation Anthems): Zadok the Priest, Let thy hand be strengthened, The king shall rejoice und My heart is inditing. Die ursprünglich einzeln veröffentlichten Anthems wurden später in einem Band zusammengefasst und 1727 bei der Krönungszeremonie in der Westminster Abbey aufgeführt. Bis heute wird Zadok the Priest bei allen Krönungsfeierlichkeiten in England aufgeführt. Der NDR Chor und das FestspielOrchester Göttingen unter Laurence Cummings bringen zusätzlich noch Chöre aus dem Oratorium Esther zu Gehör. Mit diesem Werk führte Händel die Gattung Oratorium in England überhaupt erst ein. Sämtliche Texte sind im englischen Original und ihrer deutschen Übersetzung abgedruckt. Die Coronation Anthems zählen mit ihrer überwältigenden Klangpracht bis heute zu den großartigsten Chorstücken des Barocks und sollten breit angeboten werden.
