Abstract: "Recent experimental results indicate that women do not like competitive environments as much as men do. Another literature is interested in the effect of social identity on economic behaviors. This paper investigates in the lab the impact of social identity on men and women's willingness to compete both individually and as part of a team. To this aim, participants from the Identity sessions had to go through group identity building activities in the lab while participants from the Benchmark sessions did not. The main result is that men are only willing to enter a team competition with a teammate of unknown ability if they share a common group identity with him or her. This change of behavior seems to be caused by high-performing men who are less reluctant to be matched with a possibly less able participant when he or she belongs to his group. On the other hand, group identity does not seem to induce women to take actions more in the interest of the group they belong to." (author's

Abstract: Still today for great parts of the German public the German victory at the football world cup in Bern/Switzerland in 1954 is a point of reference when national identification is concerned. On the occasion of its 50th anniversary, plenty of belletristic and scientific literary publications, a feature film and audio as well as picture documentations have been produced. Without reference to the respective genre, the majority of these works tends to regard the winning of the world cup as a „myth”, some even take it for an origo myth of a national foundation. Apart from that, a striking feature is the personifying point of view, putting special emphasis on the performance of individual figures (Sepp Herberger, Fritz Walter, Herbert Zimmermann). Approaches that focus on „Bern 1954” as a historic event are rare: Attempts to present the winning of the title against the background of the political history of the young Federal Republic of Germany can sometimes be discovered. Abstract: The impact of video game play on player aggression continues to be debated within the academic literature. Most of the studies in this area have focused on game content as the independent variable, whereas the social context of gaming is largely neglected. This article presents an experimental study (N 76) on the effects of game outcome and trash-talking in a competitive colocated multiplayer sports video game on aggressive behavior. The results indicate that an unfavorable outcome (i.e., losing) can increase postgame aggression, whereas trash-talking by the opponent had no such effect. We also tested the frustration– aggression hypothesis for video games and found that the effect of losing on aggressive behavior is mediated by negative affect. The results suggest that the frustration–aggression hypothesis can be applied to the use of digital games and that game characteristics alone are not sufficient to explain effects on aggression
