Abstract: "This paper takes up the familiar question of how one can explain support for European integration. One line of explanation builds on trade theory to theorize a calculus of economic costs and benefits. A second explanation draws on cognitive and social psychology to assess how individuals use political cues-grounded in ideology or elite communication-as a guide to complex issues. A third line draws on the psychology of group membership to consider how group identities, above all, national identities, bear on support for European integration. We use multi-level analysis to evaluate these explanations, and we conclude that perceptions of national identity are by far most powerful in structuring views on European integration. We find that the particular perception of national identity matters, as well as how identity is mobilized in national contexts. Zentral war der Konflikt um die Übergabe des Gewaltmonopols und die Kommunikation von Sicherheit, Unsicherheit und Bedrohung, da anti-koloniale Kräfte, lokale Eliten und internationale Verwalter ihre Ansprüche an den zukünftigen Staat über Sicherheitssprechen vermittelten. Abstract: Politikwissenschaftliche Begriffe sollen dazu dienen, zwischen sozialen Phänomen zu unterscheiden - und das am besten über Kulturgrenzen hinweg. In einem kritischen Literaturüberblick werden diese Kriterien an die verwendeten Religionsbegriffe in der Forschung zum Verhältnis von Religion, Konflikt und Frieden angelegt. Manche Studien verzichten auf eine Definition von Religion, was jedoch Zweifel an der Belastbarkeit der Ergebnisse weckt. Andere greifen gemäß der klassischen Unterscheidung entweder auf funktionalistische oder substanzielle Religionsverständnisse zurück. Postmoderne Autoren lehnen generell den Versuch ab, Religion definieren zu wollen. Die Sichtung der Literatur zeigt, dass ein substanzieller Religionsbegriff, der den Transzendenzbezug hervorhebt, ohne Religion zu essenzialisieren, für die empirische Forschung am besten geeignet ist. Abstract: This special issue explores underrepresented aspects of the political dimensions of global warming. It includes post- and decolonial perspectives on climate-related migration and conflict, intersectional approaches, and climate change politics as a new tool of governance. Its aim is to shed light on the social phenomena associated with anthropogenic climate change. The different contributions aim to uncover its multidimensional and far-reaching political effects, including climate-induced migration movements and climate-related conflicts in different parts of the world. In doing so, the authors critically engage with securitising discourses and resulting anti-migration arguments and policies in the Global North. In this way, they identify and give a voice to alternative and hitherto underrepresented research and policy perspectives. Abstract: "The security strategy adopted by the European Council in late 2003 underlines the importance of conflict prevention and civil, but also - wherever necessary - military intervention in weak or failing states. The new European Security Strategy (ESS) recommends that foreign and security policy should more closely dovetail with development policy. In view of the fact, that development cooperation (DC) has specific operational experiences, particularly in relation to weak states, development policy needs to assume a proactive stance towards the ESS. In order to become an important player in European security policy, development policy needs to confront the task of aggregating its large operational experiences into strategic concepts on how development policy can contribute explicitly in erasing the socioeconomic foundations of the existing transnational threats to European security. Abstract: Die vorliegende Studie ist das Ergebnis eines Forschungsvorhabens des Deutschen Instituts für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE). Ziel der Studie ist es, zu einem besseren Verständnis des Themas beizutragen und zu helfen, sowohl die Reaktionsfähigkeit der entwicklungspolitischen Akteure in Bezug auf non-state armed groups/nichtstaatliche Gewaltakteure (NSAG) in Krisensituationen als auch ihre Möglichkeiten im Umgang mit NSAG zur Konfliktbearbeitung zu verbessern. Hintergrund des Forschungsvorhabens sind Situationen gewalttätiger Auseinandersetzungen, mit denen Entwicklungspolitik in vielen Ländern und Regionen konfrontiert ist. Nichtstaatliche bewaffnete Gruppierungen sind ein Hauptmerkmal innerstaatlicher Konflikte und vieler regionaler Kriege. Typische Erscheinungsformen nichtstaatlicher Gewaltakteure sind Rebellenarmeen, Kriegsherren oder Terroristen. Abstract: "Das Eintreten für eine multipolare Weltordnung und gegen einen US-amerikanischen Unilateralismus ist eine Konstante russischer Außenpolitik seit dem Ende des Ost-West-Konflikts. Dabei gelten die Vereinten Nationen als die wichtigste internationale Organisation, um dieses Ziel zu erreichen. Jedoch führt Russlands Bekenntnis zu einer multipolaren Weltordnung nicht zu der Schlussfolgerung, multilateral zu handeln. Im Gegenteil, Moskau verfolgt eine klare Interessenpolitik, die weniger auf Konsens und Kooperation basiert als vielmehr auf Alleingängen und dem so genannten 'nationalen Interesse' Russlands. Multipolarität bedeutet für die russische Führung, dass große Staaten souveräner sind als andere. Abstract: Family is a bridge between individual and society. In my paper, I will survey broken marriage and individual dissatisfaction in two novels by Edith Wharton. The novels in question are The House of Mirth (1905) and The Age of Innocence (1920). Edith Wharton portrays her concern by the conflict between the individuals and the social groups which they live in there. Her treatment of the family is always in association with the bourgeois society, with the ambitious stock brokers from the west. This conflict can be seen in their attitudes to love, marriage, divorce, and remarriage. In the novels, Marriage, as an indissoluble matter and even an invariable failure, is main concept and sex outside marriage is meaningless. Abstract: "This paper examines interethnic conflict on grazing land previously accessed as common property. The study was undertaken in Mieso District of eastern Ethiopia where two ethnic groups experience different production systems – pastoral and agropastoral. Game theoretic approach and analytic narratives have been used as analytical tools. Results show that the historical change in land use by one of the ethnic groups, resource scarcity, violation of customary norms, power asymmetry and livestock raids are some of the factors that have contributed to the recurrence of the conflict. The role of raids in triggering conflict and restricting access to grazing area becomes particularly important. Socio-economic and political factors are responsible for power asymmetry and increasing scale of raids. The joint effect of an increase in trend of violence and a decline in capacity of customary authority in conflict management advances state role in establishing enforceable property rights instit

Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to show how psychological trauma resulted from conflicts such as colonialism, immigration, racism, wars and invasion; and even gender discrimination makes its way into postcolonial children's literature. For example, some contemporary writers of children's literature depict the painful experience of young immigrants who are living under constant stress and tension. Others try to depict how the Middle East conflicts and turmoil affect children living under occupation. In all of these cases, children are highly at risk of psychological trauma. This paper is going to discuss two contemporary children's novels which address the issues of immigration and war conflicts: Marina Budhos' Ask Me no questions (2007), and Cathryn Clinton's A Stone in my Hand (2002). Abstract: In den Medienbeiträgen zum Aussiedlerproblem werden meistens nur die politischen, administrativen und ökonomischen Aspekte der Übersiedlung thematisiert. Bedeutend weniger weiß die Öffentlichkeit über die sozialpsychologischen und die persönlichen Probleme der Aussiedler. Besonders betroffen von den psychosozialen Folgen der Aussiedlung sind Kinder und Jugendliche, die in aller Regel nicht die aktiven Initiatoren der Übersiedlung waren. Psychosoziale Probleme sind bei ihnen schon vorprogammiert. Bei der Eingliederung der Aussiedlerkinder und -jugendlichen wurden die Entwicklungsphysiologen und -psychologen sehr selten um Rat gefragt. In dem vorliegenden Aufsatz rückt der Autor die sozialpsychologische Betrachtungsweise der Migration junger Aussiedler in den Mittelpunkt seiner Ausführungen, ihre Motive und Erwartungen, die Auseinandersetzung mit dem neuen Milieu, ebenso ihre Reaktionen auf die neue Umgebung.
