    Abstract: "Der aus dem Gießener DFG-Sonderforschungsbereich Erinnerungskulturen hervorgegangene Sammelband bietet einen breiten Überblick über Forschungsansätze und -ergebnisse aus verschiedenen Disziplinen rund um das Themenfeld Erinnerung und Gedächtnis. Trotz vieler interessanter Einzelbetrachtungen fehlt jedoch ein übergeordneter Rahmen, durch den die thematisierten Aspekte eingeordnet und aufeinander bezogen werden könnten. Die Schwächen einer kulturwissenschaftlichen Gedächtnisforschung, verstanden als ein interdisziplinäres, multiperspektivisches Forschungsprogramm, werden auf diese Weise deutlich."     Abstract: Einleitend analysiert die Verfasserin die Anfänge der einzelnen autobiographischen Schriften, wodurch ein Einstieg in die individuelle Lebensgeschichte der autobiographischen Subjekte eröffnet wird. Der Grund und der Anlass des Erinnerns sowie der Reflexion im autobiographischen Schreiben werden dargestellt. Es wird argumentiert, dass die Frage, ob und wie sich das autobiographische Ich durch 'authentische' Erinnerungsarbeit beispielsweise bezüglich eigener Täterschaft, erfahrener Verluste von Familienmitgliedern oder auch generationaler Konflikte konstituiert und stabilisiert, von zentraler Bedeutung ist. Anschließend werden die ausgewählten Autobiographien miteinander verglichen, wobei Gemeinsamkeiten und Unterschiede herausgestellt werden. Die Ebene der individuellen Lebens- und Bildungsgeschichten der autobiographischen Subjekte wird zugunsten der Beschreibung eines kollektiven 'Generationen-Gedächtnisses' verlassen.     Abstract: In this article I will discuss empirical approaches to viewers' reception of films about the Holocaust. Existing studies tend to focus on the effects of, or responses to, one film or to one type of film, which results in skewed ideas about "Holocaust films" and their audiences. I will present a qualitative study of individual reception of feature films about the Holocaust I conducted in Britain, and demonstrate how a comparison of the reception of different films and genres can add to our understanding of their interpretation and impact. Differences and similarities in responses to feature films based on fictional narratives on the one hand and on "true stories" on the other hand, will be highlighted, while also taking into account viewers' interpretative communities. I will show that films based on true stories, especially if shot in a realist style, added more measurably to historical knowledge and understanding than those based on fiction, with the latter tending to be judged to

    Abstract: Daniel Pauly's concept of the shifting baseline syndrome (SBS) focuses on problems of scientists’ long-term change perception and in particular on the forgetting of reference points established by preceding generations. Once introduced in the context of fisheries science, the concept is currently widely applied in neighbouring disciplines, but has only begun to enter the field of social and cultural science. This article considers the shifting baseline syndrome in an interdisciplinary context and describes suggestions emerging that way: With regard to the concept's context of origin, it shows that approaches from social and cultural science such as the sociology of knowledge and memory studies allow a more detailed and comprehensive understanding of questions addressed by the concept.
