    Abstract: Othering ist nicht nur ein gesellschaftliches Phänomen, sondern muss auch in seiner Relevanz für die wissenschaftliche Analyse reflektiert werden. Anhand von Beispielen aus der Forschungspraxis diskutieren die Beiträger*innen, wie das theoretische Konzept des Othering in der qualitativen Forschung fruchtbar gemacht werden kann. Dabei loten sie dessen kritisches und produktives Potenzial sowohl in theoretischer als auch in epistemologischer, methodologischer und forschungspraktischer Hinsicht aus. Sie analysieren Othering in der postmigrantischen Gesellschaft empirisch, machen es auf diese Weise sichtbar und fragen nach den Möglichkeiten und Grenzen von Reflexivität für eine kritische Wissensproduktion

But since no benchmark can be absolute, judgement is a proliferation of comparisons. Through a series of case studies in everyday and academic comparison (literature, history, politics, philosophy), the author calls out the typical vices of comparison and proposes ways to unseat them. For however much it is abused, distorted, and manipulated, comparison retains an essential link to the idea of justice

    Abstract: The paper focuses on the Latin American perspective on modernity, especially on the Peruvian sociologist Anibal Quijano's notion of coloniality. Coloniality is explained as a theoret- ical framework for critical reflection of modernity with an emphasis on the forms of knowledge (episteme) and on non-Western, more specifically Latin American historical experiences and perspectives. The aim is to introduce some Latin American efforts to critically understand coloniality as the other face of modernity and to develop a distinctive critique of capitalism, globalisation and Eurocentrism in their historical dynamics, In the first part, the paper briefly introduces Latin America as a geocultural place and a object of social research in a historical perspective. Special attention is paid to the question of racial classification and authenticity. In the second part, the paper focuses on the notion of coloniality as it was conceptualised by A.     Abstract: This paper means to demonstrate the theoretical-and-methodological potential of a particular pattern of thought about culture. Employing an end-means and absolute value plus concept of reality approach, the continuous model of culture aims to embrace from one holistic standpoint various concepts and debates of the modern human, social, and political sciences. The paper revisits the debates of fact versus value, nature versus culture, culture versus structure, agency versus structure, and economics versus politics and offers the concepts of the rule of law, state capitalism, a dialectical model of progress, and interpretative qualitative research, as well as of cultural diffusion, autonomy, alienation, and individuality. This model distinguishes between the ideal-symbolical and the instrumental functions of culture, sees culture as being sewn from universal binaries, and provides a certain understanding of the cognitive function of a value judgment, with positivism so far vague abou

    Abstract: "Dieser Aufsatz untersucht die Stärken und Schwächen der Beiträge Akes zu den Sozialwissenschaften und der Wissensproduktion in Afrika. In diesem Artikel wird die Relevanz der Arbeiten Akes für die Anpassung des intellektuellen Erbes marxistischer Analyse an die Politische Ökonomie und die Sozialgeschichte des gegenwärtigen Afrika thematisiert. Dabei werden gleichermaßen die Unzulänglichkeiten in Akes Haltung gegenüber externer Wissensproduktion im Allgemeinen und gegenüber der Westlichen im Besonderen diskutiert. Angesichts seines Eintretens für eine Umstrukturierung der wissenschaftlichen Disziplinen unter Berücksichtigung afrikanischer Kritiken und Interpretationen stellt die Studie ein Korrektiv zum Eurozentrismus dar. Ake befürwortet einen 'nichthierarchischen', interregionalen Dialog, in dem weder der Norden noch der Süden als Paradigma gelten sollte, an dessen Vorbild die 'andere Seite' gemessen und als unzulänglich beurteilt wird."     Abstract: Gewalt ist nicht nur Ereignis, sondern auch Prozess und Verhältnis. Sie zerstört Ordnung nicht nur, sondern begründet sie auch und hält sie aufrecht. Der Dimension des Wissens wird in den meisten Gewaltdebatten nur wenig Bedeutung beigemessen, gilt sie doch als Gegenteil von oder als Gegenmittel zu Gewalt. Mit dem Begriff der "epistemischen Gewalt" rückt die Autorin den konstitutiven Zusammenhang von Wissen, Herrschaft und Gewalt in der kolonialen Moderne, unserer Gegenwart, in den Fokus. Ausgehend von feministischer, post- und dekolonialer Theorie entwickelt sie in Auseinandersetzung mit struktureller, kultureller, symbolischer und normativer Gewalt ein transdisziplinäres Konzept epistemischer Gewalt
