    Abstract: Rejecting substantializing and essentializing concepts of culture, an understanding of culture that is epistemologically and hermeneutically motivated is outlined. In this view, culture is seen as a perspective or orientation that makes it possible to understand human actions, mind, and other psychological phenomena in a context without which they would not be understandable. This context only becomes intelligible if it is subject to interpretation, that is, if it is understood as a multilayered text, a narrative, a novel with countless plots, perspectives, levels of time, and spheres of emotion. Such narrative interpretation, it is argued, is what happens in cultural understanding. This argument is illustrated by an analysis of several forms of autobiographical identity

    Abstract: Gegenstand des Artikels ist die Figur der Cyborg, wie sie auf Donna Haraways 'Cyborg-Manifest' von 1985 zurückgeht. Die Autorinnen lesen die Cyborg als ambivalente Figur, insofern sie einerseits Produkt unheimlicher gesellschaftlicher Wissenschafts- und Technologieverhältnisse ist, welche mit Haraways Begriff Informatik der Herrschaft zu charakterisieren sind, und insofern sie andererseits die Logik dieser Verhältnisse zu untergraben vermag, indem sie sich in der Struktur der hierarchisch angeordneten binären Oppositionen, die diese Logik konstituieren, nur widersprüchlich positionieren läßt. Die Autorinnen zeigen, daß die Cyborg damit etablierte Grenzen des zerstörerischen 'modernen' 'westlichen' Denkens - vor allem Grenzen, die auf der Natur/ Kultur- und auf der Frau/ Mann-Opposition basieren - in Frage stellt, und veranschaulichen dies anhand der exemplarischen Auseinandersetzung mit neueren Entwicklungen im Forschungsfeld der Künstlichen Intelligenz sowie mit einer Erzählung au

    Abstract: "Der Artikel 'Oh boy, it's a girl!' geht der Frage nach, ob Dekonstruktion/Kritik der Kategorie Geschlecht fruchtbar sein kann für feministische Sozialarbeit mit mißbrauchten/mißhandelten Mädchen. Dazu werden Teile der Sozialarbeitstheorie Staub-Bernasconis und dekonstruktive Ansätze (Judith Butler) synthetisiert. Die Autorin kommt zu dem Schluß, daß die vorgelegte Synthese sinnvoll und geeignet ist, feministische Sozialarbeit anders zu begründen, und daß sich durch diese Synthese zahlreiche methodische Konsequenzen für den genannten Arbeitsbereich ergeben, insbesondere im Hinblick auf die Mitwirkung der Mädchen und der in diesem Bereich arbeitenden Frauen am Herstellungsprozeß der hierarchisch konstruierten Zweigeschlechtlichkeit."     Abstract: Es wird der geschichtliche Hintergrund und die aktuelle Situation des Kärtner Minderheitenkonflikts beschrieben, indem einige Aspekte des interethnischen Konflikts deutlich gemacht werden. Davon ausgehend, daß die Sprache eine wichtige Rolle in der Ausbildung einer ethnischen Identität spielt, wird der Zusammenhang zwischen Zweisprachigkeit und Identität untersucht, wozu auf Forschungsergebnisse aus der Analyse von zweisprachigen Lebensgeschichten zurückgegriffen wird. Grundlage der weiteren Überlegungen ist die Konzeption der Identitätsbildung durch Kommunikation und Interaktion. Es wird die These diskutiert, daß Zweisprachigkeit - besonders im Alltagsbewußtsein - die Gefahr eines gespaltenen Bewußtseins bedeutet. Vor diesem Hintergrund wird überprüft, ob die zweisprachigen Identitätsformen der Slowenen letztlich auf eine weitere Assimilierung hindeuten oder ob doch Ansätze einer ethnischen Identität, die auch politisches Handeln impliziert, sichtbar sind.     Abstract: The intense concerns with time, space and consciousness structure modernist and postmodernist Gothic narratives with the elements been treated much differently in these periods from the previous ages, owing to the hypotheses of great twentieth and twenty first century philosophers such as Henri Bergson, Edmund Husserl, Martin Heidegger and Jean-Paul Sartre, later to be followed by Gilles Deleuze, for whom the linear spatialized concept of time and the traditional notions of space and consciousness are no more than ideal speculations and to whom the existential views of time, space and consciousness make reasonable substitutes.     Abstract: Slavery in America began when Africans were brought in as slaves to the North American Colony of Jamestown Virginia around 1619. Slavery in America lasted for almost four hundred years though the trade was legally abolished by Britain in March 1807 (Walvin 163). Although the trade ended, slavery itself continued to survive. Phillis Wheatley (1753-1784) is considered the first prominent Black writer in the United States to publish a book of imaginative writing. She is also the first to start the African-American literary tradition, as well as the African-American women literary tradition. Her work, which was derivative, was published in the collection, Poems on Various Subjects (1773) and in various magazines. Her choice of words was mostly biblical where it helped to camouflage her view on slavery. This paper intends to show that all of Wheatley's poems actually carried the theme of freedom. She has intelligently used this theme to articulate her desires in a subtle manner. On the

Ein Aspekt wird in der ersten Euphorie bei vielen dieser global agierenden Firmen jedoch nach wie vor häufig vergessen: Die interkulturelle Kompetenzentwicklung der Mitarbeiter. Dabei sind es ja genau die grenzübergreifend arbeitenden Teams, die den neuen Strukturen Leben einhauchen und die internationale Strategie zum Erfolg führen sollen. Erst nach dem Scheitern vieler Projekte wird dieser vermeintlich unwichtige Faktor als ausschlaggebender Grund für den teuren Fehlschlag identifiziert.
