    [Dt.:] Der Urdu-Gelehrte und Schriftsteller Muhammad Husain wurde 1830 in Delhi als Sohn persischer Einwanderer geboren. Später fügte er seinem Namen den Künstlernamen Azad zu. Er starb 1920 in Lahore. Sein bekanntestes Werk ist die hier vorliegende Urdu Literaturgeschichte "Ab-e hayat" (dt., Wasser des Lebens), die bahnbrechenden Einfluss auf die Literaturgeschichte und die Kanonisierung der Urdu Literatur hatte. Die Digitalisierung des Textes wurde im Rahmen der 'Digital South Asia Library' (DSAL) der Universität von Chicago bereitgestellt. - [Engl.:] The Urdu poet Muhammad Husain was born in 1830 in Delhi as son of Persian emigrants. Later he chose for himself the pen name Azad. He died in 1910 in Lahore. His most famous work is the history of Urdu literature "Aab-e Hayaat" (Water of Life), a seminal work consisting of a discussion of Urdu poetics as well as biographies of various major Urdu poets. The NeLRaLEC project has been funded by Asia IT and C Programme of the European Commission. Led by the Open University, UK, the other project partners are Madan Puraskar Pustakalaya and the Central Department of Linguistics at Tribhuvan University from Nepal, and Lancaster University UK, Göteberg University Sweden and the European Languages Resource Association (ELRA) France from Europe. The main objective is to further integrate Nepal and neighbouring regions in the Information Society so that they can exploit Information and Communication Technologies through the medium of Nepali
