Dieses Buch zeigt die Hinterlassenschaften des Kolonialismus hierzulande auf, denn die deutsche Kolonialgeschichte spielte sich eben nicht nur in Afrika, Asien oder in der "exotischen Südsee" ab. Die Spurensuche führt quer durch ganz Deutschland, ob nach Hamburg, Freiburg, Köln oder Dresden, in kleine und große Städte. In Museen und Archiven-, aber auch im Straßenbild entdeckt der Leser die Relikte von Herrschaftsanspruch und kolonialer Praxis. In über 70 Beiträgen beleuchten die Autoren in Bild und Text die politischen, wirtschaftlichen, kulturellen und gesellschaftlichen Auswirkungen, die das Streben - nach einem "Platz an der Sonne" in Deutschland zeitigte. Mentalitätswandel und Migrationsgeschichte behandeln sie dabei ebenso wie etwa die deutsche Afrikanistik oder die aktuelle postkoloniale Erinnerungskultur. Dieser Band schärft den Blick dafür, dass die Kolonialpolitik auch für Deutschland keine folgenlose Episode geblieben ist. Er betrachtet die Kolonialgeschichte aus vielfältigen Perspektiven und vermittelt einen ganz neuen Zugang zu einem weitgehend in Vergessenheit geratenen - und verdrängten - Kapitel deutscher Geschichte.

Mentalitätswandel und Migrationsgeschichte behandeln sie dabei ebenso wie etwa die deutsche Afrikanistik oder die aktuelle postkoloniale Erinnerungskultur. Dieser Band schärft den Blick dafür, dass die Kolonialpolitik auch für Deutschland keine folgenlose Episode geblieben ist.
