    Este libro trata sobre la traducción entre lenguas en contacto, tomando como base el par de lenguas formado por el español y el catalán. La traducción entre lenguas en contacto es una práctica poco conocida y explorada todavía en los Estudios de Traducción, una práctica en que los condicionantes sociales y políticos y la situación de desequilibrio entre las lenguas se hacen presentes inevitablemente en el resultado final de la traducción. La intención del libro es hacer más visible esta práctica de traducción así como las posibilidades de investigación que ofrece.     This collection, which transports readers from the age of manuscripts to the digital word, is a good demonstration not only of the current vitality of studies of Catalan language and literature, but also of the variety of interests and theoretical approaches and the diversity of origin of Catalan researchers. The studies are focused primarily on three thematic areas: a) culture and language between the fifteenth and eighteenth centuries; b) one hundred years of Catalan literature: 1859-1959; and c) multilingualism and interculturality. The collected studies will prove to make a solid contribution to the unstoppable progress that Catalan philology has been making for decades.

    El volum reuneix contribucions de diverses disciplines que es dediquen a la història epistemològica medieval i renaixentista i les fa dialogar. Aborda un ampli ventall d'aspectes, des de la materialitat dels textos fins als recursos lingüístics emprats, des de la persistència de paradigmes nascuts a l'antiguitat fins a la seva reestructuració i adaptació, mitjançant les quals sorgeixen nous models per a la percepció del món i per a la seva discussió. El llibre ajuda a comprendre la constitució del saber a través del marge conceptual històric de la Corona d'Aragó com un dels focus d'amalgamació i innovació que abasta tot el Mediterrani. Comprèn territoris d'un intens intercanvi cultural i lingüístic amb les zones d'influència amb les quals tenia vincles dinàstics i comercials. El marge conceptual de la Corona d'Aragó estableix també les pautes temporals, començant amb les obres de Ramon Llull i d'Arnau de Vilanova a la segona meitat del segle XIII, passant, d'una banda, pels sermons de sant Vicent Ferrer al segle XIV i, de l'altra banda, la poesia d'Ausiàs March al segle XV i arribant a la recepció i la implementació de models italians al segle XVI. Amb un ampli ventall -des de les petites glosses vernacles inserides en textos hebreus fins als voluminosos còdexs miscel·lanis-, en aquest passeig pels segles el volum examina el saber per als laics. This volume brings together contributions by specialists from a variety of disciplines discussing the epistemological history of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance and the transmission of knowledge in the Crown of Aragon. They consider, among other things, the materiality of texts, the linguistic models employed, the persistence of ancient models of perceiving the world, up to the establishment of new ways of thinking and knowledge transfer.

    The 'Liber elegantiarum' (Venice 1489), by the Valencian notary Joan Esteve (fl. c. 1442-1487), is an outstanding and quiet original product of early humanistic European lexicography. Conceived partly as a bilingual Catalan-Latin dictionary, it by far surpasses this goal to become in addition an epistolary manual and an aid to grammar, besides providing an often picturesque collection of humanist sayings and literary excerpts. Above all it offers dramatic evidence of the multifacetted expansion of Italian humanism and the crucial role played by the brilliant Neapolitan court of the King of Aragon. As a Romance lexicon, Joan Esteve's work is also one of the first great repertories to include the vernacular as a source language (slightly after Tranchedini's 'Vocabolario') and probably the first to be printed, before Palencia's 'Universal Vocabulario' (1490), Nebrija's 'Dictionarium' (c. 1495) or Valla da Girgenti's 'Vocabularium vulgare' (1500)
