    Die Fassungen des Hornstoffes behandeln das reizvolle Romanzensujet von Verbannung und Rückkehr eines Königssohnes, der nach Aussetzung und Erziehung an fremdem Hofvon der Königstochter geliebt wird, der Intrige eines Freundes zum Opfer fällt, nach erneuter Verbannung und ritterlicher Bewährung an einem anderen Königshof das angebotene Reich und die Hand der Königstochter ausschlägt, sich seines vor sieben Jahren gegebenen Versprechens erinnert, zur Geliebten zurückeilt und schließlich sein Erbreich aus den Händen der Feinde zurückerobert. In dieser Arbeit sollen die Hornfassungen in ihrer geschichtlichen Abfolge unter dem Aspekt ihrer Genesis im Sinne der Forschungen Viktor Schirmunskis, der den diachronischen Vergleich den historisch-genetischen nennt, untersucht werden. Dabei werden übereinstimmende Erscheinungen als Ergebnis ihrer genetischen Verwandtschaft und der im weiteren Verlauf sich ergebenden historisch bedingten Divergenzen betrachtet.
