    Mit der babylonischen Sprachverwirrung, die das Aufkommen des Tonfilms für die Filmwirtschaft bedeutete, reduzierten sich für die international agierenden Filmproduktionsfirmen - so auch die Ufa - die Verwertungsmöglichkeiten ihrer Filme. Sie versuchten dem in den Anfangsjahren mit Sprachversionsfilmen zu begegnen, d.h. mit mehreren weitgehend identischen Fassungen desselben Stoffes in verschiedenen Sprachen und mit Darstellern aus dem entsprechenden Sprachraum. Der Bochumer Filmwissenschaftler Wahl beschreibt dieses Phänomen am deutschen Beispiel, doch machen seine ausgreifenden filmästhetischen und -ökonomischen Überlegungen etwa zum Verhältnis von Original, Kopie, Version und Remake das Buch weit über das begrenzte Thema hinaus interessant. Obwohl Wahl sich auch an Laien wendet und um verständliche Sprache bemüht, sind Diktion und Argumentation dieses wissenschaftlichen Werkes sehr anspruchsvoll, sodass es wohl nur für Großstadtbibliotheken infrage kommt, diesen aber sehr zu empfehlen ist. Die Dokumentation einschließlich einer DVD mit Filmbeispielen lässt nichts zu wünschen übrig.
