    Die Unmöglichkeit der Rückkehr zu einem nostalgisch idealisierten Zuhause und einer authentischen Ursprungskultur zählt zu den Topoi postkolonialer Literaturen. Die weibliche karibische Migrationsliteratur ist bis heute von dieser Thematik durchzogen. Im Verlauf einer Rückkehr in die Karibik verhandeln Mitglieder der karibischen Diaspora ihre persönlichen wie kulturellen Zugehörigkeiten neu. Sie revidieren ihre bis dahin oft naiven, unreflektierten Auffassungen von Raum, Kultur und Identität zugunsten von Transnationalität und Transkulturalität. Die in der vorliegenden Studie entwickelte sechsteilige Typologie des Rückkehrromans ordnet das Rückkehrthema nicht nur als konservatives Element einer Exilliteratur im Sinne einer zum Scheitern verurteilten Rückkehr zu Authentizität und Essenz ein. Vielmehr werden auch kulturelle Partizipation und Erinnerungsarbeit im Auswanderungsland als Rückkehrformen interpretiert, so dass die Rückkehr auch als Bestandteil einer karibischen Minderheitenliteratur gedacht werden kann, deren Protagonistinnen sich letztlich aktiv im Aufnahmeland zu verorten suchen und dort durch die Affirmation ihrer individuellen Transkulturalität die Öffnung nationaler Identitäten vorantreiben. Die Vielfalt fiktionaler Inszenierungen der Rückkehrthematik erschließt sich erst bei einer komparatistischen Herangehensweise, die die karibischen Minderheitenliteraturen Frankreichs, Großbritanniens, Kanadas und der USA – der primären Auswanderungsziele karibischer Emigranten – gleichermaßen in den Blick nimmt. Mit ihrer supranationalen Perspektive reiht sich die vorliegende Studie in eine relativ junge Tradition der Caribbean Studies ein, die die Grenzen von Nationalphilologien überwindet und damit der transnationalen Thematik der Romane karibischer Migrationsautorinnen gerecht wird. The impossibility to return to a nostalgically idealized home and to an authentic culture of origin is among the topoi of postcolonial literatures. To the present day, it has been a dominant feature of female Caribbean literature of migration. Through a return to the Caribbean, members of the Caribbean diaspora renegotiate their personal and cultural belonging. They revise their previously naïve notions of space, culture and identity in favour of transnationality and transculturality. The present study suggests a sexpartite typology of the novel of return. It classifies the topic of return not only as a conservative element of the literature of exile, as a necessarily doomed return to authenticity and essence. Instead, it interprets cultural participation and memory work inside the host country as additional forms of return. This allows for an understanding of return as a feature of a Caribbean minority literature whose protagonists ultimately position themselves actively within the host society and advance the redefinition of national identities by affirming their individual transculturality. The diversity of fictional returns becomes obvious only through a comparative approach which focuses equally on the Caribbean minority literatures of the primary destinations of Caribbean emigrants: France, Great Britain, Canada and the USA. In its supranational perspective, the present study aligns itself with a relatively young tradition within Caribbean Studies that neglects the boundaries set by national philologies and thereby does justice to the transnational bias of novels written by female Caribbean authors.
