    Verlagstext: Das klassische "Schlüsselwerk zur Kultur", ein Sachbuchklassiker. Es wird zu wenig gelesen, ist die weit verbreitete Klage in Zeiten ernüchternder PISA-Studien-Ergebnisse: Vor allem "die mangelnde Lesekompetenz deutscher Schüler erschütterte die deutsche Nation" (Wieland Freund, Die Welt). Zwar können die meisten Kinder die Worte zusammenbuchstabieren, der Sinn des Ganzen entgeht Ihnen aber. Die Schulen entlassen strukturelle Analphabeten. Doch selbst Vielleser sollten nicht auftrumpfen. Denn: "Gutes Lesen ist eine komplexe Tätigkeit, ebenso wie gutes Schreiben. Es besteht aus zahlreichen unverzichtbaren Einzelschritten. Je mehr ein Leser davon beherrscht, desto besser kann er lesen" (M.J. Adler). Der US-Autor und frühere Planungsdirektor der Encyclopaedia Britannica, Mortimer J.
