Der Begriff des Reiches Gottes ist einer der umstrittensten Begriffe des Neuen Testaments: Steht der Begriff in einer Kontinuität oder Diskontinuität zum frühjüdisch-apokalyptischen Verständnis? Ist der Begriff dynamisch im Sinne einer aktiven Königsherrschaft Gottes zu verstehen oder eher im Sinne eines Heilsraumes oder einer Heilszeit? Haben wir es mit einem präsentischen oder futurischen Begriff zu tun? Kann dieses Reich nur von Gott oder auch von Menschen verwirklicht werden? In welcher Beziehung steht das Reich Gottes zum Rest der Verkündigung Jesu, zu seinem messianischen Wirken, zu seinem Tod am Kreuz und seiner Auferstehung? In welchem Verhältnis steht die Gemeinde zu diesem Reich? Warum fristet dieses Hauptthema der Botschaft Jesu im Rest des Neuen Testaments nur ein marginales Dasein? Die neutestamentliche Forschung und die Theologie des 20. Jahrhunderts insgesamt vertraten in ihrer Mehrheit eine dynamisch-präsentische Deutung des Begriffs im Sinne einer schon jetzt gegenwärtigen „Königsherrschaft Gottes“ in Kontinuität zum jüdisch-apokalyptischen Begriffsgebrauch. Als Kronzeugen dieser Deutung dienten und dienen die beiden Jesusworte aus Mt 12,28/Lk 11,20 und Lk 17,21. Diese Deutung stellt Volker Gäckle in Frage. Er plädiert stattdessen für ein Begriffsverständnis im Sinne eines künftigen Heilsraumes, einer kommenden Heilszeit und der gegenwärtigen Heilsgabe des „ewigen Lebens“.; „Kingdom of God“ is one of the key terms of the New Testament but at the same time one of the most controversial. Should we understand God’s Kingdom in a dynamic sense as God's present reign or rule, or in a spatial and/or temporal sense as realm and time of salvation? Is the Kingdom already a reality, has it started with Jesus and is in the process of becoming, or is it something that lies still in the future? Is the (be-)coming of the Kingdom a human task or solely God’s own activity?This study challenges the prevalent interpretation which understands it predominantly as God’s present, „dynamic" rule. Instead, the argument is made in favour of its understanding as the futuric realm and time of salvation and as such closer to „eternal life“ than usually thought.
