Krieg und koloniale Landnahme haben das kulturelle Gedächtnis Namibias geformt. Mit der Unabhängigkeit im Jahr 1990 begann die Gründergeneration der SWAPO, das schwierige Erbe des Landes nach seinen eigenen Vorstellungen umzugestalten. Doch jede Generation und jede ethnische Gruppe hat das Geschehene anders erlebt und bezieht seinen eigenen erinnerungskulturellen Standpunkt. Mehr noch: Dreißig Jahre nach der Staatsgründung ist die erste Nachkriegsgeneration erwachsen geworden und stellt unangenehme Fragen: Warum gab es keine Landreform und warum ist die sozioökonomische Ungleichheit größer denn je? Matthias Schulze zeigt in diesem Buch, dass die Zukunft zwischen der jüngsten und der ältesten Generation im Spannungsfeld konfliktreicher Erinnerungen, demokratischer Versprechen und schwelender Unzufriedenheit neu ausgehandelt wird. Der Autor Matthias Schulze ist Ethnologe und Historiker von der Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen. Er arbeitete als Gastwissenschaftler an der University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, Südafrika. Seine Feldforschungen konzentrierten sich auf Namibia und dauerten insgesamt 18 Monate. Zurzeit arbeitet er als unabhängiger Wissenschaftler und freier Autor in Berlin.

    Krieg und koloniale Landnahme haben das kulturelle Gedächtnis Namibias geformt. Mit der Unabhängigkeit im Jahr 1990 begann die Gründergeneration der SWAPO, das schwierige Erbe des Landes nach seinen eigenen Vorstellungen umzugestalten. Doch jede Generation und jede ethnische Gruppe hat das Geschehene anders erlebt und bezieht seinen eigenen erinnerungskulturellen Standpunkt. Mehr noch: Dreißig Jahre nach der Staatsgründung ist die erste Nachkriegsgeneration erwachsen geworden und stellt unangenehme Fragen: Warum gab es keine Landreform und warum ist die sozioökonomische Ungleichheit größer denn je? Matthias Schulze zeigt in diesem Buch, dass die Zukunft zwischen der jüngsten und der ältesten Generation im Spannungsfeld konfliktreicher Erinnerungen, demokratischer Versprechen und schwelender Unzufriedenheit neu ausgehandelt wird. Der Autor Matthias Schulze ist Ethnologe und Historiker von der Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen. Er arbeitete als Gastwissenschaftler an der University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, Südafrika. Seine Feldforschungen konzentrierten sich auf Namibia und dauerten insgesamt 18 Monate. Zurzeit arbeitet er als unabhängiger Wissenschaftler und freier Autor in Berlin.
