    Volker Klotz zeigt in diesem Buch an Meisterwerken der Weltliteratur, was seit Homer "Erzählen" bedeutet, was daran konstant geblieben ist und wie es sich im Lauf der Jahrtausende verändert hat. Wieso erzählt Vergil in der Aeneis den schaurigen Abstieg in die Unterwelt anders als sein früher Vorläufer Homer und sein später Nachfolger Dante? Warum begründet Döblin in seinem Hamlet-Roman die erfundene Erzählrunde anders als Chaucer in den Canterbury Tales, der sie fast ebenso deutlich vom ursprünglichen Vorbild unterscheidet, dem Decameron des Boccaccio? Klotz nimmt den Leser mit auf eine Reise durch 3000 Jahre Weltliteratur, quer durch die Kulturen und Sprachen. Man lernt, berühmte Werke mit anderen Augen zu lesen, von Don Quijote, Tausendundeine Nacht, Potockis Handschrift von Saragossa bis zu Huckleberry Finn oder Carlos Fuentes' Terra Nostra, aber man wird auch neugierig gemacht auf Werke, die der Durchschnittsleser heute kaum noch kennt, obwohl sie ehemals zum klassischen Kanon gehört haben, etwa die Lusiaden des Cames, einen verschollenen Roman Heliodors oder Ariosts Orlando furioso. Eines wird bei der Lektüre auf jeden Fall sinnfällig: Erzählen ist unerschöpflich, unabschließbar und - unendlich spannend.

    Volker Klotz zeigt in diesem Buch an Meisterwerken der Weltliteratur, was seit Homer "Erzählen" bedeutet, was daran konstant geblieben ist und wie es sich im Lauf der Jahrtausende verändert hat. Wieso erzählt Vergil in der Aeneis den schaurigen Abstieg in die Unterwelt anders als sein früher Vorläufer Homer und sein später Nachfolger Dante? Warum begründet Döblin in seinem Hamlet-Roman die erfundene Erzählrunde anders als Chaucer in den Canterbury Tales, der sie fast ebenso deutlich vom ursprünglichen Vorbild unterscheidet, dem Decameron des Boccaccio? Klotz nimmt den Leser mit auf eine Reise durch 3000 Jahre Weltliteratur, quer durch die Kulturen und Sprachen. Man lernt, berühmte Werke mit anderen Augen zu lesen, von Don Quijote, Tausendundeine Nacht, Potockis Handschrift von Saragossa bis zu Huckleberry Finn oder Carlos Fuentes' Terra Nostra, aber man wird auch neugierig gemacht auf Werke, die der Durchschnittsleser heute kaum noch kennt, obwohl sie ehemals zum klassischen Kanon gehört haben, etwa die Lusiaden des Cames, einen verschollenen Roman Heliodors oder Ariosts Orlando furioso. Eines wird bei der Lektüre auf jeden Fall sinnfällig: Erzählen ist unerschöpflich, unabschließbar und - unendlich spannend.
