    Main description: Welches Selbstverständnis entspräche einer Kulturwissenschaft, die neue ästhetische, mediale und kultursoziologische Phänomene und Entwicklungen entschieden in den Blick nehmen könnte, ohne darüber ihren bisherigen Gegenstandsbereich und Reflexionsstand zu verlieren? Auf methodischer Ebene stehen solcher Programmatik bislang insbesondere zwei Barrieren im Weg: 1. das gestörte Verhältnis zwischen Hermeneutiktheorie und Modernismus; 2. die an der Komplexität modernistischer Gattungsbegriffe unübersehbar werdenden Begrenzungen geläufiger Kategorienbildung. Die damit verbundenen Probleme zu lokalisieren und - wo möglich - reduzieren, ist Ziel der vorliegenden Studie
