On y trouve l'ébauche de cette épopée comique, suivie de quatre états différents de l'oeuvre à laquelle Constant a travaillé jusqu'en 1826 et qu'il rêvait de publier. La deuxième section donne deux états de l'ouvrage »De l'esprit de conquête et de l'usurpation«: le texte de la première édition, du 30 janvier 1814, et celui de la quatrième édition, publiée à Paris et retravaillée pour tenir compte du climat politique de la Première Restauration. La troisième section réunit les textes actuellement connus qu'il a écrits pour soutenir les ambitions politiques du Prince Royal de Suède en France. Ils sont complétés par les premiers articles de presse rédigés par Constant dès son retour à Paris. La quatrième section enfin est réservée aux »Réflexions sur les constitutions et les garanties«, premier traité de théorie politique publié par Constant et paru en avril 1814, quelques jours avant la promulgation de la Charte constitutionnelle. Il y attachait une importance particulière puisqu'il l'a profondément retravaillé pour le placer en tête de son »Cours de politique constitutionnelle«. Les deux versions sont données ici dans leur intégralité. Le volume est complété par quelques petites annexes, une chronologie développée pour les années 1812 à 1815 et un index des noms de personnes

    Le tome VIII est divisé en quatre grandes sections. La première est consacrée à »Florestan«. On y trouve l'ébauche de cette épopée comique, suivie de quatre états différents de l'oeuvre à laquelle Constant a travaillé jusqu'en 1826 et qu'il rêvait de publier. La deuxième section donne deux états de l'ouvrage »De l'esprit de conquête et de l'usurpation«: le texte de la première édition, du 30 janvier 1814, et celui de la quatrième édition, publiée à Paris et retravaillée pour tenir compte du climat politique de la Première Restauration. La troisième section réunit les textes actuellement connus qu'il a écrits pour soutenir les ambitions politiques du Prince Royal de Suède en France. Ils sont complétés par les premiers articles de presse rédigés par Constant dès son retour à Paris. La quatrième section enfin est réservée aux »Réflexions sur les constitutions et les garanties«, premier traité de théorie politique publié par Constant et paru en avril 1814, quelques jours avant la promulgation de la Charte constitutionnelle. Il y attachait une importance particulière puisqu'il l'a profondément retravaillé pour le placer en tête de son »Cours de politique constitutionnelle«. Les deux versions sont données ici dans leur intégralité. Le volume est complété par quelques petites annexes, une chronologie développée pour les années 1812 à 1815 et un index des noms de personnes.
