    Die Monographie zum Thema "Goethe und Rhetorik" schließt an die Untersuchungen zur Transformation der Rhetorik im 18. Jahrhundert an. Am Einzelfall Goethe zeigt sich, wie weitgehend die Literaten des 18. Jahrhunderts noch von einer rhetorischen Bildungstradition geprägt sind. Goethes rhetorische Schriften, aber auch seine literarischen Werke behandeln immer wieder rhetorische Problemlagen, und die Autoren der antiken Rhetoriktradition (Aristoteles, Cicero, Quintilian, Ps.Longin) sind für Goethe genauso bedeutende Bezugsgrößen wie die zeitgenössischen Rhetoriktheoretiker (Gottsched, Johann August und Christian Gottlieb Ernesti), wenn es darum geht, sein literarisches und ästhetisches Selbstverständnis zu formulieren. Untersucht werden die klassischen theoretischen Texte Goethes (etwa die Rede Zum Schäkespears Tag, Von deutscher Baukunst, Einfache Nachahmnung der Natur, Manier, Stil) aber auch ausgewählte Dramen (Tasso, Iphigenie, Faust), die autobiographischen Schriften sowie Meister-Romane

Nevertheless he dealt with questions of rhetoric repeatedly, and he thoroughly studied the works of the authorities in the field of rhetoric in antiquity and his own time. This monograph investigates traces of rhetoric in the works of Goethe with a particular emphasis on its importance and reception in the "genius period", but also in the classical dramas (Tasso, Iphigenia, Faust) as well as in his later poetry and his autobiography Noch immer gilt Goethe als einer der großen Kritiker der Rhetorik, als ein Literat jenseits der rhetorischen Schultradition. Gleichwohl hat er sich immer wieder mit rhetorischen Fragen beschäftigt, die Autoritäten der antiken und zeitgenössischen Rhetorik gründlich studiert. Die Monographie nimmt Spuren der Rhetorik im Werk Goethes auf, untersucht ihre Bedeutung und Rezeption in der Genie-Periode, aber auch in den klassischen Dramen ( Tasso, Iphigenie, Faust) und in der späteren Lyrik sowie in der Autobiographie.

    Die Monographie zum Thema "Goethe und Rhetorik" schließt an die Untersuchungen zur Transformation der Rhetorik im 18. Jahrhundert an. Am Einzelfall Goethe zeigt sich, wie weitgehend die Literaten des 18. Jahrhunderts noch von einer rhetorischen Bildungstradition geprägt sind. Goethes rhetorische Schriften, aber auch seine literarischen Werke behandeln immer wieder rhetorische Problemlagen, und die Autoren der antiken Rhetoriktradition (Aristoteles, Cicero, Quintilian, Ps.Longin) sind für Goethe genauso bedeutende Bezugsgrößen wie die zeitgenössischen Rhetoriktheoretiker (Gottsched, Johann August und Christian Gottlieb Ernesti), wenn es darum geht, sein literarisches und ästhetisches Selbstverständnis zu formulieren. Untersucht werden die klassischen theoretischen Texte Goethes (etwa die Rede Zum Schäkespears Tag, Von deutscher Baukunst, Einfache Nachahmnung der Natur, Manier, Stil) aber auch ausgewählte Dramen (Tasso, Iphigenie, Faust), die autobiographischen Schriften sowie Meister-Romane

Die Monographie nimmt Spuren der Rhetorik im Werk Goethes auf, untersucht ihre Bedeutung und Rezeption in der Genie-Periode, aber auch in den klassischen Dramen ( Tasso, Iphigenie, Faust) und in der späteren Lyrik sowie in der Autobiographie. ?Goethe is still considered one of the great critics of rhetoric, who in his writing did not follow the tradition of the schools of rhetoric. Nevertheless he dealt with questions of rhetoric repeatedly, and he thoroughly studied the works of the authorities in the field of rhetoric in antiquity and his own time. This monograph investigates traces of rhetoric in the works of Goethe with a particular emphasis on its importance and reception in the "genius period", but also in the classical dramas (Tasso, Iphigenia, Faust) as well as in his later poetry and his autobiography
