    The Christian Goddess examines the goddess-figures in the fantasies and fairy tales of George MacDonald. Bonnie Gaarden asserts that MacDonald, a Victorian Scot who wrote one of the first adult fantasy novels produced in English and became a powerful influence on C. S. Lewis, also 'anticipated the modern quest for the feminine face of God.
