    Zwar muss die Geschichte nicht umgeschrieben werden, aber der britische Historiker Price veranschaulicht auf eine gut fassliche und anschauliche Weise, dass die Niederlage Napoleons bei Waterloo eigentlich nur den spektakulären Endpunkt eines seit 1812, seit dem Desaster des Russlandfeldzuges, einsetzenden Prozesses mit Siegen und Niederlagen (A. Platthaus "1813", 2013) war, währenddessen die antifranzösischen Koalitionäre mehrfach Friedenssignale aussandten und sich in Frankreich alle Zeichen von Kriegsmüdigkeit zeigten. Price benützt Quellen, die zuvor nicht ausgewertet wurden oder jetzt erst zugänglich sind wie der Nachlass Metternichs (Acta Clementina) in Prag. Price reiht sich ein in die erneuerte Erzählung der napoleonischen Ära durch französische Historiker, wie sie T. Lentz ("1815", 2014) und J. Tulard (1989) repräsentieren. Gut einsetzbar neben den aktuellen Biografien von J. Willms (2005), G. Lefebvre (2003) und den jüngsten Darstellungen zu Waterloo von B. Simms (2014), J. Willms (2015) und K.-J. Bremm (2015).
