    Der Band möchte nachweisen, dass es einen inhaltlichen Zusammenhang von Prolog und Haupttext in Gottfrieds ‹Tristan› gibt. Die Autorin macht dies insbesondere an Wortpaaren des Prologs fest, die im Haupttext wiederkehren. Mit Hilfe der Ergebnisse der Wortuntersuchungen gelingt es, den Prolog auf eine neue Art zu lesen – nämlich mit den Wortbedeutungen, die der Haupttext des mittelalterlichen Romans intendiert. Diese Lektüre geht weit über die bisher im Zentrum stehende rhetorische Bedeutung des Textstücks hinaus. Ein Ausblick auf Gottfrieds Fortsetzer, Hartmanns von Aue ‹Gregorius› und ‹Iwein› sowie Wolframs von Eschenbach ‹Parzival› belegt, dass es sich bei diesen Beobachtungen in Gottfrieds Text um ein bewusst gestaltetes Konzept handeln muss, das sich nur auf wenige Vorbilder stützen kann.
