    Der Band bietet einen zusammenfassenden Überblick über die bisherige Forschung zur Lesesozialisation. Dabei wird zunächst die positive Bewertung von Lesesozialisation durch Rückgriff auf die mit dem Lesen verbundenen Funktionen normativ begründet. Neben den unmittelbaren Funktionen Unterhaltung und Information stehen hier insbesondere die Folgefunktionen von der Entwicklung primärer Phantasie und sprachlicher Differenziertheit über argumentative Kommunikation, Empathie- und Moralentwicklung etc. bis hin zur Aufrechterhaltung von kulturellem Gedächtnis im Mittelpunkt.
